its like watching a fish flop around on the deck of a boat

if he thought it would save his ass, tomorrow he'd join the communist party

Oscar Wildcat - 2012-03-05

The difference being, when the Left calls you a sociopathic junky, it's less an insult and more a clinical description.

Anaxagoras - 2012-03-05

Oh for fuck's sake. Is this man completely unable to be graceful or classy? I mean, I've seen plenty of instances where he wasn't either of those things, but... I'm beginning to think he's simply not capable of pulling them off ever.

B. Weed - 2012-03-05

Short answer: yes.

Long anwer: YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS.

Binro the Heretic - 2012-03-05

Not so long ago, when Rush shot his big mouth off, there would have been an outcry which would only serve to fuel his popularity. This time, it actually cost him one of his sponsors. That's the only reason he apologized.

You're an antique. Limbaugh, a relic of a bygone era. Most of the country regards you with mild curiousity blended with revulsion and pity, like a poster depicting a minstrel in blackface.

Shut up, sit the shelf and gather dust like a good little tchotchke.

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2012-03-05

More than one sponsor has pulled their ads, including AOL. When AOL jumps ship, you know things are really getting bad.

I also think it has to do with the current state of the GOP. About the only people they've still got on their side are Fox News die-hards and people like the Koch brothers. I'm really amazed it took this long and required a stance on birth control straight out of the middle ages along with attitudes that you'd think came from the court of Louis XIV to finally make most people realize they and their noise machine might have crossed some kind of line.

StanleyPain - 2012-03-05

No, actually Rush the real reason you "apologized" (though it wasn't really an apology in any serious interpretation of the term) is because you're costing your station money. 5 or 6 major advertisers left as a result of heat you brought down on them. So, you're trying a bit of damage control while, all the while, using your usual lame-ass excuses to try and semi-justify what you do. Funny...the right-wing media rails and rails about when people like Jon Stewart or Stephen Colbert point out they're "comedians" and shouldn't be taken as seriously as real journalists and say they're dodging the issue, but bloated, disgusting radio/TV pundits like yourself retreat into the "BUT I'M JUST AN ENTERTAINER WITH OPINIONS" at least 2 or 3 times a week because you're gutless fucking turds who can't even stand by your fakey outraged opinions.
I'm not a big fan of Michael Moore, but he put it very this week when he said "Who's the prostitute now, bitch?"

Anaxagoras - 2012-03-05

The number of advertisers that have fled is up to 7 now.

Pillager - 2012-03-05

Ah, Rush is just saying that so Obama doesn't Breitbart his coke.

fatatty - 2012-03-05

I would trade Breitbart for Limbaugh in a heartbeat.

Spit Spingola - 2012-03-05

I wouldn't want either of them on my basketball team.

Riskbreaker - 2012-03-05

Cool story Rush

Hooker - 2012-03-05

One of the things that really astounds me is that nobody seems to know what purpose an apology is supposed to serve. When you apologise, you're supposed to make it clear that you understand not what you did was wrong, but why you did was wrong, so that the person or persons you are apologising to believe that, armed with this new insight, you won't do that sort of thing again. It's not just a thing you do and that undoes the bad thing you did. It's also not hard to fake a proper apology.

TeenerTot - 2012-03-05

Yeah...I was trying to sort of put that into words myself.
If you EXPLAIN your apology (and that explanation is anything other than "I was wrong"), doesn't that sort of un-do the apology itself?

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2012-03-05

There needs to be some kind of special shame attached to anyone who basically delivers an "apology" that goes along the lines of "I'm sorry if anyone was offended by..."

See, blaming the audience for being offended doesn't change the fact that you said something vile and need to own up. It's like a murderer apologizing to the family of his victim by saying "I'm sorry if your relative couldn't manage to keep enough blood in his body to survive a few gunshots..."

It's like the GOP has a twelfth commandment: "Thou shalt not ever admit to being wrong."

NewHeavenSalesman - 2012-03-05

Do you really think Rush is apologizing to you? Or hell, even his advertisers?

Rush is media-intelligent enough to know that something like this will placate most people soon enough with Super Tuesday coming, amuse his trog fans who know he's just funning around, and soon enough the advertisers for pretty crap products will start shopping around again.

cognitivedissonance - 2012-03-05

I hope he apologizes to Peter Gabriel, who is getting ripped out of ton of royalties every time that clip gets played.

themilkshark - 2012-03-05

Rush woke up that day, jotted down some notes on what he was going to talk about and got fucking excited about having a reason to call someone a slut on the radio. This was no accident, no slip of the tongue, this was his propaganda pandering act getting a nice little wrapped gift and he wanted to open it in front of everyone. No one should be surprised that he's offering up an empty apology to satisfy his sponsors that he ultimately spins into more extremist right wing rhetoric. Business as usual until he gets cancelled.

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2012-03-05

I'd bet that recent "slut walks" and decrying of "slut shaming" had been eating away at him for a while now, and he saw this as a way to strike a blow to keep the word "slut" as the epithet he and all the other doughy white guys running things want it to be.

OxygenThief - 2012-03-05

When Rush Limbaugh goes to a murder mystery party, he always insists on playing the victim.

MacGyver Style Bomb - 2012-03-05

Fuck you.

Scrotum H. Vainglorious - 2012-03-05

Look forward to the day his generation is all gone.

CornOnTheCabre - 2012-03-05

yeah, the concept of rich, offensively influential windbags who are oblivious to their own staggering privilege will almost certainly peter out over the next few years.

...c'mon. dealing with Rush's type is like brushing your teeth. it doesn't matter how well you do it the first time, there's always going to be more plaque building up behind it.

spikestoyiu - 2012-03-05

Until his advertisers started bailing, this is exactly what he wanted/knew would happen. In fact, I'm not all that certain he really cares that much about the advertisers, because he's still talking about this shit on his show. Apparently.

joelkazoo - 2012-03-05

I've asked before and I'll ask again: why hasn't this fat fuck's heart just exploded already?

candyheadrobot - 2012-03-06

for the same reason Regan got shot 8 times and didn't die, or Putin's assassination attempt failed, bad people just cling to life lots harder than the rest. maybe that's natural selection, in the end only the worst people will be alive, and live in a wholly fucked world together. Rush'll croak before that though.

candyheadrobot - 2012-03-06

make that shot AT 6 times, hasty brain and hands...

pastorofmuppets - 2012-03-06

I like the image of Reagan repeatedly being shot but just walking slowly toward the gunman, grinning. Then he grabs the gun and says "'I'm still moving. Regulate me."

memedumpster - 2012-03-06

You made Lenin's zombie cry with that image. Now I wont get to go the dog run today.

Squeamish - 2012-03-06

I pray you change your ways and reach enlightenment before the maggots feast on your corpse, Rush. But something tells me you're going to die a ridiculous flesh puppet with an empty heart, and frankly, I don't feel too bad about that.

Timothy A. Bear - 2012-03-06

The entire history of Rush Limbaugh's effect on the political Right is to wound it at incredibly inopportune moments.
