Related note: I recently watched Mernau's Faust on the Netflix. I was struck by the beautiful, careful workmanship put into those old set pieces. I had forgotten about such gorgeous details since my film school days. Makes me wish more modern filmmakers wouldn't be so quick to go CG.

This must have been quite the extravaganza in its time. Too bad whoever put it up on YouTube couldn't give it suitable musical accompaniment.
