Ehh, it's stupid to be on either extreme of the 'society will crash/nothing really bad can happen' spectrum.

There is no end to literature from decades to a century ago filled with complaints about jobs, the economy, class inequality, evil capitalism/socialism, and how the country is about to collapse because of the capitalists/socialists. It's not the American Dream, it's the American DVD Menu Stuck On A Loop.

It's fine.

It gives people with no reason to feel good about themselves a reason to feel good about themselves.

"Yeah, I may be a complete failure at life, but when the apocalypse comes, I'll live and you'll be dead. HAHA!"

This type of life style reminds me of Heidegger and his notion of fleeing from authentic projects. Instead of doing anything meaningful and genuine with their lives, these people are fleeing from death as if that in fact characterizes a good life.
