Well, he says he also has an MBA. His problems probably don't have anything to do with his liberal arts degree. I don't know why he's complaining about that. If you want to turn a liberal arts degree into a profession, you have to have more than a bachelor's.

If you're the kind of person who thinks learning is a waste of time, then you probably aren't suited to that kind of work, anyway.

He was fired from SUN in 2001. He was in the bottom 20%. Yes, university was probably a waste of time for this man.

I used to think guys like this were morons, but in 2012, 50 percent of college graduates since 2008 are unemployed in America, so think twice.

The other thing to consider is the meaning of 'college'. Going to a university isn't the same qualification it was 40 years ago, or even 25 years ago. There has been an explosion of 'universities' in the last two generations catering to the expanded middle class. If you are willing to pay, you will find a college somewhere. A degree in Communications or Hospitality or Criminal Justice from University of Phoenix, or Southeast Oklahoma Christian College means nothing.

The fact that you have a degree (even an MBA...University of Phoenix grants those, too) doesn't mean you are intelligent, resourceful, energetic, or that you don't deserve to be working with retired cops, making cold calls and selling time shares in Tahoe.

Yes, agreed, unemployment is high, and times are tough. But the fact that this young 'go getter' is complaining about his degree (which he chose) at a college (which he chose), and seems indignant that he is working at a level with people who have no tertiary education, is as much an indication of his capability, his intelligence and his personality than of his circumstances. I'm not surprised he doesn't have a better job, and I suspect he performs poorly in the current one.

My Comm classes have helped me more than any other class. It made me look at my relationships and how not to look like a complete jackass when I talk to people in the Real World. I don't know what that does for me in the job market, but I don't know what matters because where I am it sucks. Most everyone I know has job skills or a degree but that doesn't translate to job. Or even an internship.

For me, I know college is a waste of time. As much as I like learning and my professors, I suck at math, hate the fact I have to take general education and hate tests. This guy was probably told the same pile of lies I was: "If you have a degree, you can get a career that pays 0,000!" Family and guidance counselors feed it to you. They need to be kicked in the head.

I'm really, really sick of the complaint that 'I had to do a bunch of stuff that wasn't job training'. If you don't want to get a 'liberal arts' education in the sense of reading books outside your major, you need to go to a technical training program.
Jesus Christ, people are illiterate enough about science, history, how the fucking government works and culture without making college even more narrow and technical.
There are systemic problems with higher education, but this is *not* one of them.
