Ok, another Pikmin game, but Kamiya is directing, so it has to be if not a classic at least solid. Still not enough for me to care about the Wii U, i bought a Wii after it finally started to gather enough good games, and that took years.

I went to check who Platinum Games was. Turns out, they made Bayonetta.

SkeletonMichelle - 2012-06-11

Also the crazy-original shooter Vanquish, though I do think Bayonetta is their masterpiece.

This looks great, IMO.

I can't see the Wii U making much headway against the other consoles. It's interesting, and they seen to be trying a few new ideas here and there, but the interface just seems to invent new ways to make things normally handled by a button "more realistic" by being more cumbersome.

This does look more fun than not (though my first thought was "oh, great, it's every party of every chibi JRPG adventure game ever in one crowd and I have to escort them"), but not enough to drive people to buy this thing like it's the next must-have.

From a market perspective, I think they're boned - but maybe they'll be able to buy their stock back cheap afterwards and go private or something, which seems like the sort of thing they should already be given what a weird little company they are. Wii succeeded because it stood apart, this seems like they're diving into the shark pool with everybody else. Even if Nintendo sort of introduced the whole touchscreen/motion control deal to the wider public, nobody cares who did what now.
Anyway, as to the game: I thought it looked cut-rate and lame in the trailer, but gameplay footage brought me around. When the machine gets a better library and price in a couple of years I'll consider picking one up.

The Wii U is going to be about as successful as the Gamecube, and this time they don't have their handheld monopoly to fall back on.

Yeah they've pretty boned.

Riskbreaker - 2012-06-11

People were saying the Wii was dead on arrival, now they are saying the same for the Wii U. Duplicating the sucess of the Wii is of course pretty damn hard, and this touch screen controller is not as accesible as the wii mote is. Still, they can still get some of the echo from the Wii and ride another wave. The 360 and PS3 are still getting the userbase they were hoping for 5 years ago, and they won't bring new consoles until at least a full year. Everything is set for Nintendo to score with this one.

Looks pretty great. Too bad I don't have friends. :

SolRo - 2012-06-10

Buy me one and I'll be your friend

Jet Bin Fever - 2012-06-10

Too bad you probably have to control this by swinging your arms around like an idiot.

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2012-06-11

Yeah, I'm with Yahtzee on this one. Motion controls aren't going to be effective until there's some kind of feedback response.

This is also why the Star Wars Kinect game has become such a comedic travesty; the devs realized it's pretty much only good for dancing/rhythm games.

SkeletonMichelle - 2012-06-11

Nah, it's more like drawing lines and stuff, like you might on the lower screen of the DS. http://e3.gamespot.com/video/6380810/project-p-100-wii-u-e3-2012-s tage-demo

memedumpster - 2012-06-11

This looks really fun.

TeenerTot - 2012-06-11

When vids of games show up on PoE, I always hope I'm about to see something in the spirit of bodybuilders crashing through walls.

But this is cool too. I guess.
