I hope he bought something nice. Being Lou Reed, it was at least enough heroin to get by for another few weeks.

Jet Bin Fever - 2012-06-27

I wonder if he still pays people to shit in his mouth or on a plate thats on his face that he can then eat off of.

Old_Zircon - 2012-06-27

Better than most things he did after that. Better than everything Brian Eno did that wasn't stolen from Harmonia.

Old_Zircon - 2012-06-27

Can't Hold a candle to Desert Shore by Nico and John Cale, though.

Old_Zircon - 2012-06-27

Dylan's "Self Portrait" is still my favorite contractual obligation "fuck you" album of that time, though.

jangbones - 2012-06-27

John Cale's earwax is more talented than Lou Reed

more pleasant to be around also

Old_Zircon - 2012-06-27

Also, I know a lot of noise and ambient music types who take this very seriously, which is proof enough for me that most noise and ambient music types don't understand parody.

Old_Zircon - 2012-06-27

And for the record, I like this kind of stuff when it's done well.

Hooker - 2012-06-27

True to his roots as one of Warhol's artists.

Hooker - 2012-06-27

And since it's become fashionable by its apologists to mention Tim & Eric in any video, I'm going to say that Tim & Eric are probably the Andy Warhols of our time: overhyped artists that have thin, grand ideas and put an absolute minimum of effort into them.

cognitivedissonance - 2012-06-27

I am intrigued. Elaborate.

Hooker - 2012-06-27

I don't really have much enthusiasm to expand upon it until someone rises to my bait.

cognitivedissonance - 2012-06-27

So, that was the anti-hook?

memedumpster - 2012-06-27

I agree with Hooker, and would like to add that there hasn't been a non-Andy Warhol (hence Tim & Eric) style artist in America in the 21st century.

StanleyPain - 2012-06-27

PUZZLER FUN TIME

Which is worse: this album or his collaboration with Metallica?

Riskbreaker - 2012-06-27

Here's a challenge: playing both things at the same time, how many alternative universes will be destroyed?

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2012-06-27

No alternate universes will be destroyed, but I fear for our own.

Knaaks - 2012-06-27

I bought this CD because it had like 10 stickers on it saying how many awards it won for being the worst album ever made. It did not disappoint!

Old_Zircon - 2012-06-27

There are plenty of worse albums.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2012-06-27

I love everything about this album, except listening to it.

Best (only?) positive review was in the first issue of the legendary PUNK magazine, and was entitled "Methedrine Love Letter"

Best negative review was in Creem, who filled up a page with NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO...

My first girlfriend owned it on vinyl. We used to play it to get rid of unwanted house guests.

Jet Bin Fever - 2012-06-27

For you and your girlfriend.

Stopheles - 2012-06-27

My mom listened to it all the way through twice on headphones the day it came out. The first time, she assumed that the noise would break at some point, revealing a song like "Afterhours" or "Jesus" or something. The second time, she just wanted to see what it sounded like to listen to it when you don't think it's ever going to get better.

Riskbreaker - 2012-06-27

i can't stop laughing at this.

UmbilicalFiend - 2012-06-27

this is the only worthwhile solo Lou Reed album. It's beautiful

Old_Zircon - 2012-06-27

This is probably true, but it's still a pretty weak example of this kind of music.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2012-06-27

Great Lou Reed solo albums that contain, you know, "songs" include "Rock and Roll Animal" "Street Hassle", and "Transformer", which is available complete as a youtube video

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0RUnf8vKlMc

I found "Berlin" on Youtube It's good, but it's not a party record. It's about a fucked-up relationship that ends in suicide. Some deranged critic called this "the Sargeant Pepper of the seventies", I shit you not.

Of all the Lou Reed solo albums I've heard, 1989's "New York" is the best, no question. I just read in wikipedia that Maureen Tucker played on the album.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2012-06-27

Songs for Drella, with John Cale, an album about Andy Warhol

http://youtu.be/aKYaKzexlHY

Squeamish - 2012-06-27

Oh god, all the sample sound effects CDs melted together!

Spaceman Africa - 2014-03-09

Better than The Beatles.
