As a bit of a gamer woman (when I have time--I have a JOB), I can say us real, normal girls who like games wouldn't bother kicking the crap outta her in real life. Generally, I think we all are content to roll our eyes, frag her, and get on with things.

Probably because the girls who do it are 5s and 6s while the guys are 1s and 2s.

We don't have a well-formed negative stereotype of the modern girl nerd yet because

1) it's still pretty early in their rise, whereas the old stereotype was literally the guy nerd stereotype with breasts

2) a lot of the nerdy guys will put up with anything

3) because unlike the well-entrenched guy stereotype, the girl one is being preemptively fought against with cries of "HOW DARE YOU SLUT SHAME" and "HOW DARE YOU HATE US FOR BEING A PART OF FANDOM AND EXPRESSING OUR OPINIONS", ignoring the part where it's not about slut shaming or misogyny, it's about people acting like a social reject and expecting everyone else to embrace their acting like a 5-year-old at age 25

4) extending point three, the cult of the child from pop psychology of the 60's and 70's now means that being all child-like in your wonder obviously means you're super-enlightened or something, not just immature

5) entrenched sexism means we expect boys to "grow up" and get jobs, but are accepting of girls to remain emotionally young and helpless

Actually, I think you've got it backwards. Some people live in games because they're feeling lonely and ostracized. If you're one of these phobics, it may not seem this way, but gaming is about as mainstream an activity as you're going to find these days. If you think girls have it easier, that's because lonely guys who can't get laid always think girls have it easier.

I see where you're coming from, but there's a difference between posting a video because you think you have something worthwhile to say, and just doing whatever you think will get attention. Otherwise this chick would be of comparable caliber to, say, potholer54, and who wants to live in a world like that?

I don't want to live in a world where people only make videos because they "have something worthwhile to say". The video of the Cat in the greet bowl was just wonderful.

It's just not a moral issue. Everybody wants attention, and on YouTube the best way to get it is to do something worth paying attention to. And there are all sorts of ways of doing that. Everybody wants to do something good, some people just fail. And opinions vary.

Which reminds me. Attractive girls get attention on YouTube for being attractive girls. Unfair, but it doesn't always work to their advantage. Everybody needs to stop resenting this and just accept it.

I've never understood why some people base such a large part of their identity around the fact that they play video games.

You don't really see that kind of thing from people who spend an equivalent amount of time watching television, or reading, or surfing the internet.

None of the things you just mentioned are competitive. An apt comparison would be chess players, college/sports fans or leagues, really any sort of competitive hobby.

I play chess and went to college, but I would never set foot in a chess club or attend an alumni event. I also would never associate myself with the gamer culture, even though I play a lot of games. I just never felt the need for association, whereas most people do. Apparently this need spills over into an (often unfulfilled) desire for a mate who shares this association.

As far as this particular chick is concerned, I believe she's into gaming just as much as I believe any other porn chick is into being spooged on their face for any reason other than $$.
