Hill was convicted in 1991 of using a board to beat and kill Joseph L. Handspike. Both men were inmates at the Lee State Prison in Lee County Georgia. At trial several prisoners testified that Hill mocked the victim as he beat him. Hill was serving a life sentence for murdering his former girlfriend by shooting her with a handgun.

Obviously this is a misunderstood and sensitive child trapped in the body of a murderous fashion model. Let not this angelic and simple soul's beautiful life be snuffed out by the cruel hand of injustice.

StanleyPain - 2012-07-17

In other words, you don't actually understand that many people's opposition to the death penalty has nothing to do with the innocence or "niceness" of the convict.
Good to know.

baleen - 2012-07-17

I'm not going to shed any tears over this man, but let me just tell you how happy I am to imagine him in great pain while mocking him over the internet in the same way he did his victims while he beat them. That proves that I have an IQ of at least 90. I am also very envious of the jailers who are required to administer the poison that will spell his last breath. I'm sure they sleep well every night, because they are doing God's work.

CornOnTheCabre - 2012-07-17

oh wow, is that some judeo-christian imagery I'm seeing in the justification of happily executing a mentally retarded african american? THE TWISTS KEEP COMING.

Blue - 2012-07-17

He's a retard strapped into a fucking chair. I'm sure the executioner will save his mocking for later but it will happen. The executioner is every bit as guilty of murder as his victim.

And no, it's not fucking different. Quick, without checking, what was the guy he murdered sent to prison for?

Did he rape and murder children? For all you know he did. For all you know, Joesph Handspike is the son of Don Handspike, a former assistant sherriff worth 90 million and the only reason Joesph Handspike was in prison was because the 12 year old girl whose corpse was in the trunk when he drunk drove his scion into the median happened to have a dime bag of weed on her. For all you know this guy was a monster a day away from getting out of prison with a plan to murder the families of anyone that testified against him.

But it doesn't matter to you what that other guy did. It was murder when he did it and it's also murder when the executioner does it. Just because he has a reason doesn't make it right. Ask around death row, everyone has a reason.

Hank Friendly - 2012-07-17

Perhaps against my better judgement, I'll stir the pot.

I am 100% for the death penalty. I truly believe that the death penalty should be carried out within 24 hours of sentencing. The only thing that I feel should bar immediate execution is the prisoner deserves the opportunity to say goodbye, make amends (should they so desire), and eat that last spaghetti dinner. The next day, the condemned should be taken outside of the courthouse and shot twice in the head. Personally, I don't think it gets more humane than that. Certainly it stands up a little bit better than a potassium chloride injection, on the spectrum of cruel and unusual.

Careful analysis and investigation might reveal that I was in fact not making fun of the man in question but rather the people on this site and their inevitable outcry against what I see as a completely just action. Well, almost completely just. The fact that both mine and your tax dollars will continue to feed, clothe, house, and fund the appeals of this charming and wonderful gentleman for years to come is a great relief to my troubled mind.

boggy84 - 2012-07-17

hank friendly you are a remarkably dumb and cruel man.

PegLegPete - 2012-07-17

http://www.aclu.org/capital-punishment/case-against-death-penalty< br />
Pretty comprehensive argument. Apparently due to evidence, someone being sentenced to death will incur more costs on the public than a life sentence. So if you're concerned about money, you might just want to campaign to reform the death sentence (your idea sounds less expensive, though it would still be taken more seriously in court than a "normal" murder case and thus probably cost a lot anyway) in its current form instead of supporting people being killed by a wasteful system. However if you care more about watching sick fucks die than I guess money is no object. Even though you don't really get a hint of the revenge the families of the victims do. Kinda cheapens the thrill, don't you think?

Jane Error - 2012-07-17

That might work if the U.S. had an infallible justice system, but wrongful convictions happen all the time. 138 prisoners on death row have been released since 1973 because they were later found to be innocent. That would be 138 people wrongfully executed by the state if your ridiculous 24-hour execution idea was put in place.

Also, countless investigations have proven time and time again that killing prisoners is more costly to state budgets than housing a prisoner for life. Even Fox News admits it:

http://www.foxnews.com/us/2010/03/27/just-cost-death-penalty-k iller-state-budgets/

Hank Friendly - 2012-07-17

Although the ACLU is not going to give any more of a fair and balanced look at the case for/against the death penalty than fox news, and said fox news article factors in the cost of sustaining an inmate until sentance is carried out, the possibility--i say possibility cause a lot of the numbers still look fuzzy to me due in no small part to the reasons mentioned above--that it is actually cheaper to keep a prisoner alive and incarcerated, is an intriguing one at the very least. I cannot imagine it would cost less that the .58 cents for the 2 rounds of 9mm though.

I don't think the idea is to exact revenge, but rather to remove an undesirable and incompatible element from society.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2012-07-17

It costs more because of the appeals process, and without that, you're absolutely going to kill innocent people.

Sorry, I meant you're absolutely going to kill MORE innocent people. There are cases of condemned people being 100 per cent exonerated after the third appeal. The system will circle the wagons and dig in to protect a bad decision, often because police and prosecutors are covering up their own misconduct.

The biggest problem with the death penalty is that society is incapable of imposing it in a just and wise manner. Innocent people will be killed.

PegLegPete - 2012-07-17

You'd better define "undesirable and incompatible" a little bit better, else someone might get the idea that we should just kill this guy because he's retarded. What justifies a society deciding to murder someone? A certain victim count? That sounds more reasonable than your idea.

WHO WANTS DESSERT - 2012-07-18

I'm against the death penalty but I fully support executing Baleen.

Torture the Artist - 2012-07-18

Hey Baleen I just noticed I'm not banned over here and wanted to just add another voice to the chorus of you being an absolutely worthless piece of shit. You 100% deserve to be the king of this dump, so enjoy it you piece of garbage.

American Standard - 2012-07-18

I love the idea of the death penalty on paper. There are plenty of people out there who have committed crimes that justly warrant their own death. But the justice system is run by human beings, and human beings are fallible. People, including those we trust to enforce the law, can be lazy, stupid, malicious, biased, or just plain wrong. Innocent people have been, and will continue to be executed under any fallible system that permits the death penalty, and I consider that unacceptable.

The system will never be perfect. So I'm anti-death penalty.

Redford - 2012-07-18

...

What a twist!

memedumpster - 2012-07-18

Revenge is a dish best served from a gamer computer on a snarkie increasingly-right-wing website with no personal connection other than being white and affluent makes your opinion important.

Gmork - 2012-07-17

What an unintentionally true title for this video, spawned from an attempt at satire.

dairyqueenlatifah - 2012-07-17

Is this satire?

cognitivedissonance - 2012-07-17

I'm just against the death penalty across the board, but if they're going to do it, don't expect them to be consistent with it.

jangbones - 2012-07-17

Crime deterence is a frequenty cited factor justifying the death penalty even though there is absolutely zero evidence of any impact on crime.

Warren Lee Hill's case is repulsive and indicative of the barbarism and hypocrisy inherent in the death penalty, but really every execution is.

Some day America will become civilized enough to stop executing criminals but it won't happen any time soon.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2012-07-17

Know what? Fuck this guy. I don't care if he's the meanest retard ever, or if he's "George" from OF MICE AND MEN. Maybe he deserves to die. I'm sure there are people who deserve to die, but like I said, fuck him. What about us non-murderers? What do we deserve?

I think we deserve to live in a society that doesn't dispense violence as justice. Until we do, it's gonna keep biting us in the ass.

Believe it. A society that treats violence as justice is a violent society. By definition. We're going to have to live by the values that we promote.

Hank Friendly - 2012-07-17

FYI, George was the smart one

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2012-07-17

HAHAHA! I do believe you may be right!

Mister Yuck - 2012-07-18

Well, yeah, we live in a violent society. Laws are upheld by violence. That is the system that our ancestors created and called the state. It's probably not the best way to run a society but it has been pretty successful at crushing its competitors. So watch out for that.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2012-07-18

>>Well, yeah, we live in a violent society. Laws are upheld by violence. That is the system that our ancestors created and called the state. It's probably not the best way to run a society but it has been pretty successful at crushing its competitors. So watch out for that.

(Facepalm)

Excuse me, Mr. Schmuck, but I'm not talking about laws being upheld by violence. (the police being able to shoot you if you resist arrest). I'm talking about violence being the punishment, the idea the killing people IS justice.

The death penalty isn't supposed to help us crush our competitors, it's supposed to keep our people from killing each other. Do societies in which there is no death penalty have more or less murder? That should be the measure of success.

lordyam - 2012-07-17

http://sentencing.typepad.com/sentencing_law_and_policy/2012/week2 8/index.html about two articles down from the top. so he's not really mentally handicap according to the law, but handspikes family never wanted him put to death. this gets interesting. so fuck this guy, im against the death penalty but this doesnt upset me. what is upseting as mentioned in the article there is no "other matter of criminal procedure in which a defendant is expected to prove something beyond a reasonable doubt" which is what you have to do to prove ur retarded in georgia

lordyam - 2012-07-18

blah, basically you are guilty until proven innocent kinda thing, blah blah ahhh, i need a smoke

Hooker - 2012-07-18

Fuck every single thing about the death penalty. Fuck people who defend it not coming to terms with the idea that the wrong people can be executed. Fuck people who think the state should have the power to kill its citizens. Fuck the pro-death penalty, pro-life people who base their beliefs on who should live and die based on moral judgements and infantile feelings of innocence for humans that don't exist yet respectively.

Fuck the culture of death in America.

dairyqueenlatifah - 2012-07-18

Fuck this gay earth and everyone in it.

dairyqueenlatifah - 2012-07-18

These stars are for the absolute ruckus of comments this has caused here on PoETV.

God bless you death penalty. You never fail to deliver when it comes to making otherwise mild mannered people hate each other.

Rudy - 2012-07-18

It really separates the pussies from the psychopaths doesn't it?

casualcollapse - 2020-11-29

Where did you go DQL?

Blue - 2012-07-18

Oh, since no one's pointed it out yet, the death penalty is pretty fucking racist, too.

kingofthenothing - 2012-07-19

This video sucks.
