If i had a dollar for every time somebody told me to read that book.

Old_Zircon - 2012-07-26

I've literally never heard it mentioned outside of people making fun of conspiracy theorists.

I HAVE, as a record collector, unearthed a few records that definitely drift into a kind of "jewish supremacy" territory. They're not the kind of sinister things antisemites would have you believe (about the closest they come to any of the fake Elders of Zion stuff is Esther Jungreis ranting about how the Jewish people singlehandedly created civiliation and were responsible for every advance in society since prehistoric times on the record "You Are a Jew" from 1973), but they do exist. Every social group has extremists.

Check out some of the videos

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2012-07-26

Didn't mean to submit that comment, especially without finishing it. Check out some of the videos that come up when you search for "Protocols of the Elders of Zion". There are times when the internet seems like a bad idea.

chairsforcheap - 2012-07-26

can i be brutally honest and say that that sounds like a horrible idea that I will avoid making the mistake of doing because it would make me monumentally depressed

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2012-07-26

That's a valid lifestyle choice.

misterbuns - 2012-07-26

This submission has more to offer than just the protocols of zion silliness, white supremacist silliness and mel gibson silliness. By the end of the video, the hysterical persecution complex of the filmmaker has blossomed into a gross, vindictive double standard.

Openly scorning Christians because some (just the ones they include in the edit) believe that Jews will go to hell, while ignoring the xenophobic doctrines of Orthodox Judiasm, whitewashing Palestinians as genocidal. I think my favorite part was when the Anti Defamation dude blubbered THE YOUTH OF GERMANY THINK JEWS DID 911. Fuck you. Get real. No they don't.

Antisemitism is dumb and hysterical, but by the end of this video I am left thinking the filmmakers are about as delusional as the subjects.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2012-07-26

Are the Xenophobic doctrines of orthodox Judaism relevant to the subject of this documentary? I don't see it.

In examining anti-Semitism, why is it the responsibility of the filmmaker to remind us that there are other evil doctrines?

chairsforcheap - 2012-07-26

"I am left thinking the filmmakers are about as delusional as the subjects."

Yeah, the white power freak show was easily more level-headed than the accepting (yet opinionated) filmmaker...

misterbuns - 2012-07-26

Yes, they are relevant to a documentary claiming that antisemitism runs through more or less every corner of human and American culture (which is the subtext of this film).

From what I can see there are two kinds of attitudes working here. Superstitious, un-evidenced bullshit like the protocols of Zion, and then people who have a real axe to grind with Israel and it's foreign policy because real things that happen, and those two attitudes simply aren't the same kind of thing but the documentary sort of lumps it all together as 'antisemitism'.

"In examining anti-Semitism, why is it the responsibility of the filmmaker to remind us that there are other evil doctrines?"

Well, it isn't his responsibility if he is making propaganda, but if he is going to broaden the scope of his narrative beyond The Protocols of Zion to address xenophobia in a broader sense (which he does in the act 2ish zone) it gives his voice credibility, because it contextualizes the idea of xenophobia as something shared by every fundamentalist religion.

to sort of reframe my hyperbole: the subjects think there is a sprawling zionist conspiracy. The filmmakers think there is a sprawling antisemitic conspiracy. So yeah, they are sorta similar. Where he really crosses the line is the cherry picking of Christian theology. It stops being about The Protocols of Zion (which is a legitamate phenomenon and an interesting subject) and starts to become a pretty loony witch hunt that feels more like propaganda than a documentary.

misterbuns - 2012-07-26

also im hungover and grumpy

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2012-07-26

A witch hunt against what? Christianity? i didn't see the film as being about Christianity, it's got too many muslims.

misterbuns - 2012-07-27

Nazis, man. They're everywhere. EVERYWHERE.

lordyam - 2012-07-29

'people like coldplay and voted for the nazis, ya cant trust people'- SUPER Hanz

memedumpster - 2012-07-26

Five for the Jewish hipsters at around the hour mark.

So basically, Christians took their own agenda and are accusing the Jews of it?

cognitivedissonance - 2012-07-26

As an American who is not particularly tied to any single place, either through ancestry or personal history, I've never been able to understand the "Promised Land" mentality. Did it have to be in Palestine? No. We could've given them any number of useless places in the big square states like we did with the Indians. There's lots of places still left in the world that people aren't really interested in fighting over.

lordyam - 2012-07-29

i just wanted a hotdog, and yes i do prefer nathan's. suck it ballpark

lordyam - 2012-07-29
