deadpan - 2012-09-27 It's disorienting how some brands considered unremarkable in the U.S. are considered good/high-end in other countries. I went into a Haagen Dazs shop in Shanghai and got some really pricey (by China standards) cappuccino, served at a table with a linen tablecloth and candles. Ice cream there is a bit of a novelty, and it turned out Haagen Dazs is marketed as an expensive and romantic treat for couples.

I think there's some sort of law there that people can't eat most foods, but the law explicitly says that the can eat only the crust of a pizza. That's why they've got calzones and hamburgers built into pizza crust there.
