Blue - 2012-10-23

Legend has it that the empty tag would link you to a massive collection of all the most uninteresting and pointless videos, if only somehow you could click it.

TheMarsTravolta - 2012-10-23

I like this trend of giving villains particular and idiosyncratic voices.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2012-10-23

Finally saw "The Dark Knight Rises" last night. I'm ambivalent about the movie, but Bane's voice was great.

chairsforcheap - 2012-10-23

my theory behind the bain voice was that he was always slightly choking back on the immeasurable amount of pain that he's constantly experiencing

Meerkat - 2012-10-23

I want to see a movie where Stroke Guy is the voice of the villain. And I want said villain to tie up hookers and force them to watch bad movies, in which the villain also has the voice of Stroke Guy.

fedex - 2012-10-23

this guy sounds like Carl Sagan after a stroke

who is the villain anyway?

Merzbau - 2012-10-23

The Mandarin.

I'm trying to place that voice, because I know it's very similar to a character I've heard somewhere else- that very flat, uninflected, robotic kind of total lack of accent. And I can't, and it's driving me fucking nuts.

fedex - 2012-10-24

hahah its Ben Kingsley dope, read the other comments

Corpus Delectable - 2012-10-24

Weeabos make the most disturbing villains. Didn't you know that?

Corpus Delectable - 2012-10-24

Damn. Replied to wrong comment. Meant for garcet.

Gojira1000 - 2012-10-23

They're going to make Stark boring and angst-y? Oh joy, way to kill one of the few fun characters, guys.

Dinkin Flicka - 2012-10-23

This character, hero, and franchise all fucking suck.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2012-10-23

So Christopher Nolan's taking this over, too?

Anaxagoras - 2012-10-23

I thought the angst was always a part of the Stark character. Aren't the movies just following the comic's lead?

Xenocide - 2012-10-24

They already did a fine job of making the franchise boring when they made Iron Man 2.

garcet71283 - 2012-10-23

Is it so hard to find a known Chinese actor that you have to hire Ben Kingsley?

So, Jackie Chan, Jet Li and Chow Yun Fat were too busy or something? What about the guy who played Lo Pan, is he still alive?

freedoom - 2012-10-23

Sir Ben Kingsley is capable of playing any race, creed, religion, ethnicity, gender or species. This is evidenced by his EVERY FUCKING MOVIE HE HAS EVER BEEN IN.

garcet71283 - 2012-10-23

I can hear the conversation now:
"So, we need a well known Chinese actor to play The Mandarin."
"I don't know, having an evil villain named 'The Mandarin' played by a Chinese actor might make us look racist"
"Then how about we get a well known British actor, dress him in a vaguely Chinese costume and have him talk in a indeterminate accent"
"Ben Kingsley is available, he was great in Ghandi and India is in Asia right?"

Paracelsus - 2012-10-23

Ben Kingsley's a better than all of those guys, though.

Paracelsus - 2012-10-23

(actor, not human being or anything)

WHO WANTS DESSERT - 2012-10-23

They went out of their way to not make the villain Chinese because otherwise China's strict censorship laws would lock them out of that huge market.

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2012-10-23

Garcet, you left out the rest of the conversation:

"Hmm... Maybe this would be racist. What else can we do?"
"Well, there's always the aping of other popular movies in a flailing attempt to hijack their popularity?"
"What were you thinking?"
"The Hobbit is coming out, and it's about a ring."
"And we've got TEN rings!"
"Right."
"So we make the Mandarin look like one of the dwarfs!"
"Sure, why not?"

StanleyPain - 2012-10-23

When Ben Kingsley acts, he's awesome. The problem is there a lot of films where he just sort of is there and talks in a British accent and wears "evil" costumes, but isn't actually doing much "Acting." If, for this film, he actually decides to BE the character and take on a role, he might be great.

Noober - 2012-10-24

I looked up the Mandarin on wikipedia and evidently his mother was an Englishwoman. So there you shitty racists.

Caminante Nocturno - 2012-10-24

If they don't have him yell "FEEL MAI POWAAAAH!" at least once, then there's no point in making him the villain.

Scrotum H. Vainglorious - 2012-10-23

I couldn't make it halfway through the 1st one.

FABIO - 2012-10-23

I never got the absurd amount of praise it got. Unless you really REALLY want to see Downey and Paltrow improv off each other for 90 minutes.

And even then you'd have to sit through scenes of a lame villain and the most offensively jingoistic horseshit since Transformers.

SolRo - 2012-10-23

will watch this.

screw the hipsters

WHO WANTS DESSERT - 2012-10-23

Well-Educated Pan-Asian Communist Crypto-Islamic Terrorist hijacks American iconography and military might to enact sinister agenda, must be stopped by a hawkish true patriot capitalist ubermensch, unfairly maligned for his failure to fully prevent massive loss of life in a prior attack on New York City.

FABIO - 2012-10-23

Something about the preview image made me think this was going to be an Onion parody.

Poe's law

RockBolt - 2012-10-23

Worked on me

Caminante Nocturno - 2012-10-23

It's tough being Iron Man.

fedex - 2012-10-23

yeah, Bronze Dude had it so much easier

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2012-10-24

You mean Doc Samson, right?

fedex - 2012-10-24

no no, he was the Man of Bronze

badideasinaction - 2012-10-23

The Stark Knight Rises

Caminante Nocturno - 2012-10-23

Ha ha ha ha ha!

garcet71283 - 2012-10-24

I wish I saved my stars for you sir.

fedex - 2012-10-24

that WAS good!

takewithfood - 2012-10-24

We all chipped in and got you these stars.

CJH - 2012-10-23

this looks like one of those fake trailers where they edit it up and add scary music and try to make a lighthearted movie seem dark and ominous.

StanleyPain - 2012-10-23

It's being based on the Extremis storyline by Warren Ellis, which is pretty fertile ground for a making a great Iron Man movie (they already took the Extremis origin story for the first movie). My only concern is shoehorning The Mandarin in there. Jon Favreau was always ambivalent about the Mandarian because he's so ludicrously over-powered in the comics and his origins are muddy (originally he's magical, then it was "alien technology" etc.). I agreed that it would be hard to put him in a film, even after Thor and Avengers and all that, and have him seem not-ridiculous. The first film alluded that the terrorists in the movie were working for Mandarin, but I honestly figured it was just a nod and they'd never seriously put him in a movie. The Extremis plot already has a great villain, so I don't know how this will work out on screen.

Oh well..I was concerned about them changing Whiplash in IM2 and that movie turned out pretty good I think.

Nikon - 2012-10-24

I thought for a second that the Big Bad was going to be Iron Patriot (Norman Osborne in an older model Iron Man suit). I still want them to adapt Dark Reign into a series of movies.

urworstnightmare - 2012-10-23

five for all the comments here

memedumpster - 2012-10-24

Of course the faceplate is white.

SolRo - 2012-10-24

the big gun on the back makes me think that's Warmachine from IM2

Xenocide - 2012-10-24

I like the implication Stark makes at the beginning, that after the big adrenaline rush that was his Avengers adventure, being a solo superhero just seems so boring.

It's like he knows what the audience is thinking.
