Wow, this wasn't an Alan Smithee production after all.

I love the way they used to go halfway with the Jesus stuff on those old specials. As though we can all agree that a magic star appeared and lead three wise men to a place but we're in disagreement about what was found there.

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2012-11-27

Given that only one gospel even mentions the star or the magi, I don't think even the Christians are in a great place to bitch about appropriating old myth tropes.

Seriously, "Wacky Wall Walkers" were sticky rubber octopi that came free in boxes of Kellogg's Corn Pops.

Kids went nuts for them so NBC read this as an opportunity to make yet another cartoon with a toy tie-in.

The 1980s were a dark age for cartoons. Is it any wonder so many of us who grew up in that dreadful age love to watch awesome stuff like "The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack", "Adventure Time" and "Regular Show"?

Binro the Heretic - 2012-11-27

And yes, the blue one is voiced by Peter Cullen.

Xenocide - 2012-11-28

What's amazing is that the dark age that was the 80's spawned so many great animators of today, including the people who brought us all the shows you just mentioned.

I guess they all looked at drek like this as kids and thought, "I could fucking do better than this."

Doomstein - 2012-11-28

I think the appreciation of animation as an artform may go in three decade cycles.

40's-50's-60's cartoons = Great

70's 80's 90's(most) cartoons = Holy Shit terrible

00's-10's-now = great again

When you think about how the only cartoons back in the 80's were 30 minute commercials, and the ones that weren't were just kicking the same dead horse over and over and over (scooby doo), we didn't have anywhere else to go but up.

I blame the baby boomers.

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2012-11-27

What are you guys talking about? It's a C'thulhu Christmas special, "The Stars Are Right."

I mean, unless your minds are just compensating for the eldrich runes and mind-destroying visions of otherworldly geometries, why would you say it was about rubber toys that look like--

Oh. Never mind.

robotkarateman - 2012-11-27

Way off in space
In the year zero
A rocket ship
Away the crew
Of six wall walkers
Who will do
Their white kid Billy
