Well I know what I'm doing for the next 9 hours.

TheOtherCapnS - 2013-02-03

Watching these episodes and taking a 1 hour 57 minute nap?

Binro the Heretic - 2013-02-03

This was simply the best cop show, ever.

Old_Zircon - 2013-02-03

Ahem POLICE SQUAD

Binro the Heretic - 2013-02-03

If we're going to go there, "Sledge Hammer" was far superior.

Old_Zircon - 2013-02-04

I only saw a little bit of that when I was too young to know it was a joke.

chumbucket - 2013-02-03

When I watched The Wire for the first time, I thought for sure I'd seen it before...turns out I was thinking of this show.

Created by the same guy.

In time, Andre Braugher would dazzle everybody, but when i watched that first episode twenty years ago, there was one delightful surprise. He's the boss. He's in the driver seat. He's Richard Fucking Belzer. I suspect that this was the show that discovered the principle that ANY decent standup comedian can be tapped for a stellar dramatic performance. Somewhere further down the line, Lewis Black (you know, the guy from the Daily Show who yells his head off all the time?) was amazingly subtle as a sympathetic murderer.

Twenty years later, Richard Belzer is still playing the same character on another show. I'm happy that this worked so well for him, he never had the success he deserved as a comedian.

I especially recommend episode 6, the classic "Three men and Adena", which I submitted twice before from two different sites, and it never quite made it out of the hopper. That episode features Moses Gunn, a respected stage actor, and the co-founder of the Negro Ensemble company in the 1960s. It was his final role. He was dead before the year the year was out.

I have been dying for this show to come to netflix.

Jon Polito, Yaphet Kotto, Ned Beatty all need to be mentioned here.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2013-02-03

I used to watch it with the kind of the kind of Netflix where they send the DVDs to your house. Do they even have that anymore?

I didn't mention John Polito, but apparently there was no room in the tags for Ned Beatty and Yaphet Kotto.

memedumpster - 2013-02-03

I think they still do the DVDs, though the prefer the 240p worse than stealing it off Youku quality streaming. I've never seen a single anything in HD on Netflix streaming, ever, but it's still awesome.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2013-02-03

I think I read that someone has figured out a way to run NetFlix streaming on Linux, so maybe I should look into that. Up to now, it's been no netflix for me.

I've just signed up for HULU plus, which for seven dollars a month includes the CRITERION COLLECTION. There's just no end to the great stuff that entails.

Here's to the nine empty webpages that this will be in a week.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2013-02-03

They've been up since November 2011, but I've long since downloaded these for my own offline use. I use the Download Helper extension for Firefox.

http://www.downloadhelper.net/

Does everybody do this? I don't even bother with The Pirate Bay anymore. The stuff that can be poached off of youtube is wonderful, if you don't mind the low resolution mp4 files. I love them; they download fast and don't take up space. I don't even have a home internet connection any more, so I don't have any use for DVD-sized files that take hours to download.

I have Shakespeare, Hitchcock, Ed Wood, Documentaries, I Claudius, MST3K, Italian Horror, Mysteries and Scandals, The Beatles Movies, George Romero Zombie Movies, ALSO, a TON OF Classic Rock Albums: Hendryx, SexPistols, Rolling Stones, Stooges, Led Zepplin. Bowie TRex, Beatles, Bowie, Pere Ubu, Ramones...dot dot dot

Maru - 2013-02-03

Hey, I'm not the guy who comes in here shilling for downloadhelper and namedropping the Ramones when his video breaks.

Chocolate Jesus - 2013-02-03

I get all my Hendryx on RealPlayer.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2013-02-04

I also like Boxxy.

When the video breaks, it'll be too late. It's worth downloading while it's still there.

I think Chocolate Jesus may be mocking me, but I was surprised to discover that realplayer still exists.

Jet Bin Fever - 2013-02-04

Great show.
