I'm trying to remember where I've seen those. I think it around the bridge where court street turns in Main Street, which, incidentally, is about a block away from where the shootings took place. We also used to have a guy who left hand-written religious pamphlets everywhere. they were written in pen, in a lovely little distinctive calligraphy. You'd see them around for years, from maybe the mid eighties all the way into the late nineties. Now that they're gone, I wish i'd saved a sample.

egglab - 2013-02-12 These were all around downtown, and stretched down main st. into johnson city. I do a lot of art photography/urbexing, so i made a habit of snapping these every time i came across one. After I moved, I figured I should do something with all the images. The little christian notes were great too, they were around since i was a kid, I think i still have a couple stashed away somewhere. I've also got a bunch of photos of graffiti from the "zikuski is a bloody asshole" guy which are equally crazy, but I haven't figured out the right song to slideshow them to yet.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2013-02-12 Tonight I was downtown, waiting for a bus right there, at the corner of main and front, next to the Civic Association, and I looked on every pole for a trace of those messages, but there was none-- until I found a fragment glued to the side of some kind of municipal electrical box. I could only make out two words: "ALL DRUGS"
Our friend my be back in the spring, but someday, like all of us, he'll be gone. I wanted to thank you for noticing, and recording, his (or her) manifestos. If you could post those notes, that would be wonderful.
And do you know who I saw tonight, also waiting for the bus? Ever see the old guy, the really really REALLY old guy, who decorates all his clothing with messages about jesus christ in brightly colored fabric paint? I was thinking about him this morning, sure he had left us. He's using a walker now. He's like a walking Dr. Bronner's bottle. He'll be seeing jesus real soon, I think.

egglab - 2013-02-13 I do indeed remember puffy paint jesus guy, I'm glad he's still around, if not for much longer. Does the cowboy still wander downtown? He was always one of my favorite local weirdos. I need to migrate my photos to a different site, but currently they're all still on my old deviantart page, which is http://the-egg.deviantart.com . I'll have a look through some boxes and see if i can find any of those small calligraphy jesus notes, or failing that i might have a couple photos of them somewhere.
