Actually someone please tell me what is with all the criticism of furries bronies etc. ?
Many here seem to have strong opinions on this topic.
My viewpoint is - Its fine. People are just doing what it is they do to enjoy themselves while not harming others.

I would go even further in their defence - As this is quite a niche area, imo its partakers are actually less deluded than other crazy pastimes. Eg. pick any organised religion.. Members of those organisations do their crazy nonsensical rituals and whatnot (which is fine!) but *then* they expect others + governments to legislate in a way that favours their particular craziness over others (Also not pay tax!)

Anyway lets have a discussion!

EvilHomer - 2013-03-04

Yiff in hell, furfag.

Gmork - 2013-03-04

WITCH

Meerkat - 2013-03-04

To me it is a criminal amount of money to be wasting on self delusion that could be used to feed starving Ethernopians.

Meerkat - 2013-03-04

On the other hand they aren't trying to deny other groups equal rights bases on their self delusions.

Miss Henson's 6th grade class - 2013-03-04

Look, being a furry isn't illegal, and I suppose there are worse things, and these people are doing what they love and all that jazz. That's not the question, though, and if I was really that fair-minded, I wouldn't have been hanging out at POE red from about 1999 onwards. The questions are "does this suck?" and "are these people abysmally lame?" and the answers to both of those questions are, "oh, fuck yeah."

Spaceman Africa - 2013-03-04

Well their dumb lifestyle, fandom and fetish stuff are harmless really. But it's just fun to make fun of.

Mother_Puncher - 2013-03-04

Extreme hate? 4chan and general internet culture pretty much hates them so a lot of people will make themselves hate it. From what I can gather furries take a things sensitive to peoples' childhoods and turn them sexual which I can understand but hating them with such ferocity is over the top and frankly seems forced to fit in.

I dont hate furries but I do find their hobby laughable especially by the way they present themselves. Think back to the "Fedoras are awesome" video. Many furries carry themselves in a similar fashion. Many also are very open about their hobby and like to force it onto other people and when confronted with any level of criticism, they play victim and say that you "just dont get it".

Not all furries are like this but the ones Ive talked to act this way and I cant say its the entire community. I also cannot say it is a problem with the hobby but a problem with the community.

As for the actual hobby, yeah its fucking stupid.

Mr. Purple Cat Esq. - 2013-03-04

OK, thats pretty much what I was expecting. I dont think anyone is really serious about it..

The most recent subnormality comic + last years fairly common theme in films got me thinking about bullying when I saw this.
If you take the weird, socially awkward person in school and then heap loads more derision and scorn on them, its making adjusting for them *even harder*
Like if the disabled access ramp into a building were designed to be more difficult to negotiate.
The person is going to have a very small chance of ending up being normally socially adjusted. Maybe some of these people overtly show off their diaper fetish as some kind of way to blow of steam, they are saying "yes I'm a freeeak oooghboogabooga!!" Maybe others snap and blow a load of people away.
Anyway I'm think I' guilty of bullying back in my schooldays, maybe even early college, just in terms of colluding and not doing anything to upset the status quo. I think if everyone made an effort to be more accepting and less reactionary society might run a bit smoother.
waffle waffle waffle.. Its late here!!

Mr. Purple Cat Esq. - 2013-03-04

also above, I meant serious about the anti-weirdo sentiments, not the discussion.. 9that seems like it could be misinterpreted)

Eroticus E - 2013-03-04

Because it's fucking stupid. If you want to design a lifestyle around children's tv shows, or dressing in furry costumes and fucking other sweaty, fat people, God bless you. It's still my duty to make fun of you.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2013-03-04

One of these days, I'll make a video in which I lay out, point by point by point, the reasons why I believe that Catherine Wayne is an important primitive artist, an internet culture hero, and an icon of the age. I think my reasons are pretty solid. When I make a video cranking out iconic images of Boxxy, in my own mind I'm following in the tradition of Andy Warhol, cranking out iconic images of Elvis and Marilyn Monroe.

http://youtu.be/zdhzaI0F0ys

I know how this looks. On BoNews, people accuse me directly of some weird sexual obsession. It's certainly a weird obsession, but it's not sexual in any conscious way that I can be aware of it. And it's definitely not predatory. I don't particularly want to meet the young lady. Why would I? To tell her that I'm a huge fan? I don't see how that information would be useful to her.

To insist that "how it looks" is empirical proof of something is a pretty good textbook definition of ignorance, and people who behave like that are easy to laugh at. But I know how it looks.

And I expect to take some shit for it. I'm okay with that. Sometimes, people come up with a good funny burn, and I'd have to be a real asshole not to have a sense of humor about this. No doubt about it, I am not cool. I am a huge faggot. The world laughs at star wars nerds and anime freaks. Star wars nerds and anime freaks laugh at me. Whatever.

I don't doubt that furries and bronies get something authentic and meaningful out of it. I support them, and I'll defend them when someone is really hating. I don't think they're any crazier than Dr. Who fans. Or me. But fuck em if they can't take a joke.

Miss Henson's 6th grade class - 2013-03-04

Applause for Eroticus E. Look, it's like that scene in "Fight Club" where whatsisname looks inside his soul and is embarassed to see a penguin there. I thought this was a bit unfair, since penguins are fine animals, and we are being anthropocentric dickheads by judging them less awesome than say, lions. Anyways, furries looked deep into their souls and saw, say, a character from "Duck Tales." Or a dude wearing a mascot costume and ill-fitting pantyhose. Am I supposed to think that these people aren't repellent emotional cripples or boring, whiny self-important pseudo-perverts? Not all hobbies are equal, there is a hierarchy at work, and furries are pretty much the bottom rung.

dairyqueenlatifah - 2013-03-04

Because they're two groups notorious on the internet for shoving their retarded fandom-turned-lifestyle in everyone's faces they come across. Really, that's all there is to it. If they weren't, there wouldn't be enough people aware enough of their bullshit to bash on them constantly. It also doesn't help that both groups overlap each other quite often.

Me, personally? Nope, don't care. You like what you like, as long as it doesn't consist of fucking with other people who want no part of it, I see no harm, whatever floats your boat. As for the objects of their fandom (My Little Pony/Anthropomorphic Animals) again, I don't care, whatever floats your boat. I think My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic is a fine kids show. I've watched it more than once, it's well done for what it is.

Consequentially, because of the aforementioned loud, obnoxious members of these fandoms, the quiet ones who keep to themselves and are semi-reasonable human beings receive a good dose of the resentment too.

memedumpster - 2013-03-05

Bo News is a real place!? That's got to be worse than furries!

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2013-03-05

It's a website. Is a website a real place? Bo News is like POE-NEWS and 4CHAN had a baby, and brought it up on a diet of paint chips.

There's actually someone posting on BO News who named himself John Holmes Boxxyfucker. When I confronted this person, He told me not to IM him, because he knew the police were going to arrest me for my hard drive full of kiddie porn, and JOHN HOLMES BOXXYFUCKER didn't want to be linked to me by an IM. That's a pretty good example of how smart these guys are.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2013-03-05

Furries > Tea Party Activists

Xenagama Warrior Princess - 2013-03-05

And yet nobody has brought up the fact that most of these people in this general fandom find animals sexy. I'm not talking about real animals, I'm talking about animals in general. Not the hairless apes with opposable thumbs kind of animals that talk and wear clothing and have a sense of self (humans) but ducks and dragons and wolves.

Doesn't that just creep you out?

Not only that but a lot of the people in the furry fandom (mainly Sonic fans and Bronies from my experience) provide loads of material for the rest of us. Their hubris makes it easy for other people to point and laugh.

EvilHomer - 2013-03-05

Miss Henson's nails it. Mr Cat, I don't know if you're really looking for a serious discussion on fursecution, but you have to bear in mind what's really being said here. The whole "they're not hurting anyone" line of thought is a very good argument IF a person's right to exist is on the line. If the question we're asking is, "should furrydom be illegal" - should governments ban them, should campus speech codes be implemented to squelch their freedom of thought and ability to hold open discussions, should vigilantes shoot them in the streets - then the answer is no.

But nobody believes furfags should have their lifestyle coerced out of existence. That's not the issue, and the fact that they're "not hurting anyone" is irrelevant.

They're weirdos who do funny shit and make us laugh, not second class citizens being hunted like dogs by The Authorities.

Now, it sounds like you place a lot of significance on the concept of bullying. I don't want to put words in your mouth, but are you one of those people who believes that "cyberbullying" - that is, the saying of not-nice things about other people on the internet- is actually a form of coercive violence and literally as bad as, say, a state throwing people in jail for sodomy or holding unpopular political beliefs?

Old_Zircon - 2013-03-05

It's important to remember that historically a lot of the most relentless mocking of furries was done by other furries.

EvilHomer - 2013-03-05

Furry Zionists.

Chancho - 2013-03-04

CSI totally nailed these furfags and their disgusting lifestyle. Kill them with fire.

Spaceman Africa - 2013-03-04

Though -1 star for yet another short student film about furries

WHO WANTS DESSERT - 2013-03-05

Furries are basically a fashionable hatred that's both benign enough for people to not feel guilty over mocking them but popular enough to never run out of material

At this point I really don't give a shit, it was funny 10 years ago but we've all grown up and at this point there's plenty of legitimate evil that deserves mockery over socially awkward nerds with a paraphilia.

Old_Zircon - 2013-03-05

Does anyone really actually hate furries? Outside of places like 4chan, I mean.

Old_Zircon - 2013-03-05

Also, there's a difference between mocking and gawking, and the m.o. of PoE is typically the latter.
