She always came off as incredibly stiff and unnatural, even for someone playing a robot.

EvilHomer - 2013-03-22 Brent Spiner (Data) is the only actor who ever "got" the intricacies of playing a robot.
Tiffany Brissette's performance was nothing more than robot black face.
|
SteamPoweredKleenex - 2013-03-22 Your mileage may vary on Spiner, but the writers are the real ones to blame for most of Data's character arc. He wasn't really a very good Asmovian robot, IMHO, but again, I think that was mostly the writers treating him like a macguffin rather than figuring out a more robotic (less like a Vulcan, basically) template to work from.
|
EvilHomer - 2013-03-22 Oh heavens, my monocle! It's popped clear off, and wedged itself in my neckbeard!
If Data is not robot enough for YOU, dear sir, then might I inquire as to who is?!
You'll answer C3PO, most like. Harhar!

lordyam - 2013-03-22 robert patrick is my favorite robot

|
SteamPoweredKleenex - 2013-03-22 Not that he's "enough of a robot," but that he's not enough of the Asmovian robot they were shooting for (down to the positronic brain). They just made him a Spock analogue for the most part and didn't ever nail down what their version of the three laws (or four, if you're an Asimov fan) were. They skirted it every so often, but it just kind of sucked that we had an artificial life form whose only real goal was to be more human, which I thought sold the character short.
I mean, they had an episode where he has to decide to murder someone to stop future deaths, and this is a huge moral dilemma for him (supposedly to do with the First Law about not, y'know, killing stuff). Firing photon torpedoes at a ship full of people or not preventing said firing? No problemo.
You can have your monocle back and enjoy your Star Trek robot if you want.

|
EvilHomer - 2013-03-23 Data was a loose cannon; he doesn't play by your "rules", maaaan.
He wasn't my favorite robot, though. Favorite actor-playing-robot, yes, but if we're talking favorite robot-as-character, mine is either Bender, because come on, Bender! or Spectral Caprica Six, because she gave Dr Baltar some great slapstick setups and also she had nice boobs.

Old_Zircon - 2013-03-23 The best robot is Vinnie.

Anybody that has ever been in a 12 step program and wondered why no one ever selected Jesus as their higher power has just found out why.
Thank you, woman who played a robot.
|
sjohnson301 - 2013-03-22 Really? I always assumed most people who didn't share their higher power had picked JC.
|
Old_Zircon - 2013-03-23 MY higher power is weed, it has the power to get me high.

From what I can see, this was in '91 and she eventually got a degree in psychology and is working in Boulder, CO as a nurse.
Maybe this was a last grab at celebrity and now she's over it. I dunno.

Jet Bin Fever - 2013-03-22
She's got the crazy eyes.

Only if your hemline makes Jesus frown.

If you want to get depressed quick and easy, watch this video, then look up a current picture of her.
Then, you can look up a current picture of Punky Brewster to get un-depressed again.

Old_Zircon - 2013-03-23
So many stars for the audience shots.
This whole thing is like a real life John Waters movie.
