In 1970, my uncle was working at a research station in the high arctic. They were stationed up there six months at a time with supply shipments flown in every few weeks. These shipments not only included food and scientific equipment but recent movies as well.

One night, three months into their stay, everyone gathered in the movie room to watch this new science fiction film called Barbarella. Twenty lonely men who had not seen a woman in months sat there with their eyes transfixed on Jane Fonda. Once the movie was finished, he said everyone got up and went to their rooms without saying a word.

I wonder what it's like knowing every last person of a particular generation has masturbated to you.

Old_Zircon - 2013-05-01

This movie is PG I think.

baleen has become poetv. This is the first step of full integration.

I was gonna say I remember renting it in 1996 and noticing that (I thought I remembered a G rating), then it opened with a strip tease and getting all my friends to see it. Not just for that, the movie is fucking awesome. This, like Theater of Blood is another one of my absolute favorite movies, as appeared here only weeks ago. Duran Duran is also actor Milo O'Shea who also plays the police detective in Theater of Blood coincidentally. I at first thought in Barbarella he was supposed to be a portrayal of Wilhelm Reich ... could easily be a caricature , but he also just looks like sort of like him anyway.

(Sex maniac psuedo-scientist/psychologist who built (fake) machines that channeled 'orgone' energy. Wrote some interesting inflammatory left-wing material before that, fleeing germany early 1930s for a castle in Maine)

Raggamuffin - 2013-05-02

It carries a PG rating, but that rating pre-dates the existence of PG-13.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2013-05-02

baleen's puberty also got to vote, which I think is fair

Hey cool just re-watched this a few months ago

cognitivedissonance - 2013-05-01

If they remade it, I'd insist on David Mitchell as Duran Duran. He looks exactly like the original actor.

Last time I saw this, I was tripping in a graveyard.

There is no contemporary analogue to Dino de Laurentiis.

Tarshem, maybe, but his stuff is austere, not fun and by this point very familiar. Dino de Laurentiis is the master of a lost art.

I'm just creeped out by Henry Fonda's face on that body.

memedumpster - 2013-05-02

This movie taught me the absolute necessity of shag carpeting on spaceships.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2013-05-02

Quotes from this movie are burned in my memory. And not in a good way.

LOVE!
