John Landis, ladies and gentlemen. Director of the Blues Brothers, Animal House, and... this.
|
Spaceman Africa - 2013-06-23 It's a shame he made this between his two classics, Beverly Hills Cop 3 and Blues Brothers 2000.

WHO WANTS DESSERT - 2013-06-23 Don't forget being personally responsible for the death of Vic Morrow and two child actors, then blaming all the people who warned him and using their deaths to promote the shitty Twilight Zone movie!
What I'm saying is fuck John Landis.

When local record stores were dumping their Laserdiscs circa 1998, at least 10 percent of the LDs were copies of this movie.

I liked this more than was really sensible. Something about Christopher Lee's big villain moment and David Cronenberg being Stanley's boss...

joelkazoo - 2013-06-23 Tom Arnold is just a big dumb guy from Iowa, which is part of his appeal. He really can't act worth a shit, and he gives all the big dumb guys from Iowa and elsewhere hope that they can make it as long as they marry and divorce a loudmouthed comedienne with a successful sitcom.
If you ask me, the biggest problem with this film is that it's not stupid *enough*! It really doesn't capture the truly chaotic nature of the books. In the books, the "they stole our garbage again!" thing would be one joke, then they'd go on and do something else, and twenty more things would happen before the book would just end. You do not read "The Stupids" books for the plot, you read them to laugh at how stupid it all is.
And like I said, Stanley needs a gigantic porn 'stache, which Tom Arnold couldn't grow to save his life.

Jet Bin Fever - 2013-06-23
Watching this film is like having your childhood dog get run over in front of you over and over and over. You think the pain is gone, and then it just keeps going.

cognitivedissonance - 2013-06-23 Oh what a bunch of joyless prigs you all are.
TOM ARNOLD IN A PASTEL SUIT HOLDING CAPTAIN KANGAROO HOSTAGE.

cognitivedissonance - 2013-06-23 This is honestly on my list of Top Ten. You people are utterly appalling.

I thought this was going to be the Lars von Trier movie...not sure if I'm disappointed or relieved.

Adham Nu'man - 2013-06-23 I thought that one was called The Idiots

Riskbreaker - 2013-06-23 I don't think there's much difference between the two.

Despite the zany 80s soundtrack. The laughs...they do not come. Just tears.

oswaldtheluckyrabbit - 2013-06-23
David Cronenberg guest-stars in this, so I approve.
|
B. Weed - 2013-06-23 Another bit of trivia: Stanley's neighbor is film director Robert Wise, whose career included the original version of The Haunting, The Sound of Music, and Star Trek: The Motion Picture.
How and why Landis got a couple of fellow directors to be in this, I don't know.
