Holy fuck, yes.

Especially as one of the seemingly few people left defending the story and execution of GTA4, I don't see anything to complain about. This looks like San Andreas + more. Very exciting.

Spaceman Africa - 2013-07-09

Now I don't want to succumb to hype or anything but HOLY SHIT BUYING STOCKS

Gmork - 2013-07-09

Can I get the version WITHOUT THE TALKY BITCH?

deadpan - 2013-07-09

If I can't take off my shirt get fat as fuck and jump off a mountain then what's the point?

Stopheles - 2013-07-09

Parachuting, swapping between participants in a single mission AND the possibility (even the merest possibility, people!) of playing in an 80s armored Lex Luthor costume?

Why can't this game come out in late June, so I could actually play the fuck out of it right after I buy it? It'll kill me to hear my students raving about it in October...

urbanelf - 2013-07-09

GTA 5: HEAT

zerdzer - 2013-07-09

it isn't coming to PC

looks alright though

Scrotum H. Vainglorious - 2013-07-09

Probably slated for a later release like the others were.

I hope.

zerdzer - 2013-07-09

sadly, rockstar openly stated that they disliked PC because of all the supposed pirates they'd get if they released a PC version

meanwhile, it's pretty easy to play pirated games on console anyways

i hope too, for rockstar's sake

jangbones - 2013-07-09

I'm still waiting for Bioshock Infinite for Mac, so I suppose I will play this in about 2018

Monkey Napoleon - 2013-07-10

They'll release it for PC. Rockstar is actively hiring for the explicit purpose of PC ports.

Also, I call bullshit on those graphics. This is being developed for current gen with a possible next gen port last I heard.

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2013-07-10

How explicit are they going to make the PC port, then?

Nominal - 2013-07-09

Rockstar is kind of like Id software at this point. Just give up on games and focus on making engines for Saints Row games.

Hooker - 2013-07-09

Please let this not be GTA4 again.

Gmork - 2013-07-10

how can you possibly allow yourself to have such bad taste?

San andreas wins at vehicle variety and having better stunt locations and more varied locales.

GTA4 wins because the engine slaps the SHIT out of san andreas' engine.

San Andreas cant compete with gta4. GTA4 didnt get parachutes until TBOGT and it never got planes, and new york is a shitty stupid place. By the way, I have san andreas the worldmap as a location I can spawn into when I play TBOGT. So I have the best of both worlds - the better map of San Andreas with the better engine of GTA4. Also I get parachutes because I installed the mod into the TBOGT side of it.

The majority of idiots who dislike gta4 solely do it for the reasons I was at first offput - Niko's storyline sucks, and new york is a stupid shitty place.

Now that it's back in CA, even if it's shitty old southern CA, it's going to be ten times the game gta4 was, and despite its handicaps gta4 outperformed san andreas on the fun scale by about a zillion points. Think about it - ACTUAL NATURE to drive through and cities spaced at a sane distance apart.

TBOGT and TLAD are what gta4 is all about. That plus the video editor easily trumps anything san andreas has ever done in terms of replayability. I bought san andreas again just to give it a shot, remembering how much I loved certain elements. So glad I kept the receipt.

Gmork - 2013-07-10

THATS RIGHT I TEXTWALLED THE FUCK OUT OF YOU WHAT

Spaceman Africa - 2013-07-10

GTA 4 seemed to lack that certain element of fun previous GTA games. Maybe it had something to do with being set in a cold, brown and grey city. Or all the heady themes that were in the game for some reason. There was also certain gameplay elements that didn't work so well, like the whole relationships thing. Sure San Andreas had a dating system but it was simpler and didn't involve taking your fat cousin bowling. Previous GTA games also had that tongue in cheek humor that seemed missing or a lot less noticeable in 4. Basically what I'm saying is I hope Area 69 is back in this game and I can break into on a jet pack while weighing 400 pounds.

Gmork - 2013-07-11

i absolutely agree the best parts of san andreas need to merge with the awesome engine of gta4. then the two halves of amazing potential can come together for whats probably going to be the best game ever until the next gta comes out

also state of decay sucks

StanleyPain - 2013-07-09

There's too much stuff all coming out at once this year, yet again. GTA5, Saint's Row 4, and Diablo 3 are all coming out at the same fucking time right about.....

That said, this does look to be much more of a GTA game than 4 was. Not so much "yadda yadda commentary about America corrupting people etc. grim boring yadda" but just the usual dumb crime drama BS that makes GTA games work.

Scrotum H. Vainglorious - 2013-07-09

You can skip Diablo 3 or at least wait until it hits the bargain bin.

Caminante Nocturno - 2013-07-10

Or simulate the experience by frantically clicking your mouse while looking at generic fantasy pictures.

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2013-07-09

Sounds good, but after GTA IV... I'll hold off.

IV had some good concepts, but the story was at odds with the game (Niko is a reluctant criminal who, when not in a cutscene, rapes, steals and murders with abandon) and there were a LOT of annoying maintenance missions you had to do just to keep your idiot cousin and other pals happy.

If nothing else, I hope it gets ported to PC and the modders make something even better out of it.

Oh, and the "GTA Online" thing... that sounds a lot like "pay extra so you can go online with friends or not, we don't care. We just know that you'll cough up a monthly fee if you want more content, sucker."

StanleyPain - 2013-07-10

People who disliked GTA4 should really play the stand-alone side-games, Lost and the Damned and Ballad of Gay Tony. They were way better than the core game and had stories much more in the vein of what GTA is sort of all about.

RockBolt - 2013-07-10

The main thing elevating this game is its location vs boring surrogate New York. Then add GTAIV was 5 years ago, it looks like they've been busy making a new game and not just a new plot.

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2013-07-10

Yeah, but oddly enough, what'll impress me is if they lose the old console memory limitation BS. That is, when I finish a mission and return to where I left, I'd like it if the car I came in was still freakin' there. I don't want to have to level up a perk to where someone will dump one of my cars on me, I just want the world to not reset itself the second I leave a cutscene or interior location.

StanleyPain - 2013-07-10

I seriously doubt the online requires extra money beyond the usual XBLA/PSN accounts. GTA4 had some ok online modes, by far the most entertaining being the open world mode where you and 16 other people just populated the world. Apart from killing each other or killing cops, there wasn't a whole lot to do, though. So...if they finally give us an open world where all of the activities are available and there's a little more to do, this would be pretty sweet. I mean, some of the best online experiences I've had gaming-wise were unquestionably those first few, popular months after GTA4 came out.

memedumpster - 2013-07-10

Tries hard to compete with Mario Party for genre defying action.

Gmork - 2013-07-10

*headdesk*

Jet Bin Fever - 2013-07-10

Oh, tennis and golf... I'm sure that'll be at least slightly more entertaining than darts.

Caminante Nocturno - 2013-07-10

Multiplayer in a sand box game designed around killing and stealing has potential.
