My child arrived the other day,
he looked at the world in the usual way
Told him how to live and what to say
I watched him walk and watched him play
And he was talkin' before I knew it, and as he grew
He'd say "I'm gonna be like you Dad
You know I'm gonna be like you"

My son turned ten just the other day
He said, "Dad I want to watch TV with you what do ya say?
Wanna watch baseball?", I said "Not today
I got a lot to do", he said, "That's OK"
And he walked away but his smile never dimmed
And said, "I'm gonna be like him, yeah
You know I'm gonna be like him"

Well, he came home from college just the other day
He was wearing a rainbow shirt and a pink beret
"Son, what happened to you? You're dressed like a child"
He just shook his head and said with a smile
"Dad, I met some friends and we love this show, called My Little Pony."
He smiled at me and said "I'm a Brony"

I've long since retired, my son's at home
I yelled to the basement the other day
I said, "Son, will you get out and get a job"
He shouted, "Fuck you dad!" and let out a sob
"I've got costumes to make and fanfics to write
Gotta be ready for Bronycon, Dad
Gotta be ready for Bronycon."

As I sat in my chair it occured to me
"My son's a fucking brony
My son's a worthless brony"

And my son's in the basement with his toys and dolls
Spends all his money on coloring books at the malls
When ya gonna grow up son?
"I don't know when, but I'm gonna fuck this pony plush, Dad"
"Gonna fuck this pony plush right now"

WTF is wrong with these people

Cena_mark - 2013-07-10

I'm sure it sucked when the bronies came into your homes, tied you up, and forced you to go their concert.

EvilHomer - 2013-07-10

Please. He enjoyed every minute of it.

badideasinaction - 2013-07-10

To be fair, convention concerts/dances at events that aren't very big or explicitly music-driven tend to be pretty sad things to watch. Most congoers don't have the sense of adventure or general interest to see a niche artist they've never heard of, so you end up with 20 die-hard fans in the audience rocking out while everyone else just stands there at best. This is par for the course for most smaller to mid-size events.

I'm just going to assume something about his music was pony-based, but really, there's a lot of sheltered folks at cons who are there for Exactly What I Already Like And Nothing Else, not new experiences.

Spaceman Africa - 2013-07-10

Is it really a convention when there's like 50 people there.

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2013-07-11

If someone rented a space and printed badges, then yes.

I blame Vinyl Scratch for this shit.

In related news, I've been working on a solo piano piece based on some of the themes from MLP. It's tough, though, because in my experience, the MLP fan music community is pretty kitschy and self-indulgent. I'd like to keep things honest, earnest, even a little classy (I'm thinking "My Little Pony" as interpreted by Victor Borge), but it's hard not to feel embarrassed and self-conscious when you know your source material leads musicians - better musicians than you, even - towards dubstep karaoke and quirky fedora-rock.

Cena_mark - 2013-07-10

Bronies already had a taste for dubstep and shitty techno. Scratch was just an outlet for them.

"I'd like to keep things honest, earnest, even a little classy (I'm thinking "My Little Pony" as interpreted by Victor Borge)"

you cannot even be serious right now

EvilHomer - 2013-07-11

What?

Mr Borge would have really liked My Little Pony. It's fun, sweet, anf clean, appropriate for children while still being clever enough for adults.

I'm thinking something like his Happy Birthday Variations, you know, play the theme from the show in the style of a few different composers. I'm thinking Satie, Mozart, and Wesley Willis.

I'll call it: La Sonata de Cheval. It'll form the basis for the aria from my upcoming operetta, Equus! The Musical. Which is a musical version of Equus, starring My Little Ponies.

"Concert."

Raggamuffin - 2013-07-11

This is amazing.
