Oh wow. I was expecting some kind of change in context, not... that.

These stars are for the robots, who sounded the least robotic of the characters.

I'm guessing it would be good to know what the source material is?
|
EvilHomer - 2013-07-13 The first half is the source material, second half is the American recut.
|
Oscar Wildcat - 2013-07-13 Shakespeare for the first half, a coke addled recording engineer for the second.
|
EvilHomer - 2013-07-13
OH HAI MARK.
The best part is how the American version tries really hard to sanitize the ending, but winds up going all Heavens Gate on the audience, which in hindsight is much much worse.

Bort - 2013-07-14 I had stars for you, but then, they just vanished!

Haha, I love how in all anime dubbed for American TV up until the 2000s, letting anyone important die, partake in any sort of alcohol/tobacco/drug use, or any implied sex/nudity was taboo, and completely cut, creatively edited, or both.
I like how they went the extra mile with this though, adding a whole additional scene, to reinforce the fact that "THEY DID NOT DIE REALLY THEY RODE OFF INTO THE INTERGALACTIC SUNSET ON THEIR COMET OF SUGAR AND RAINBOWS AND LIVED HAPPILY EVER AFTER! LOVE CONQUERS ALL ONCE AGAIN!" and add some comic relief afterward.
It reminds me of how the American DBZ dub had everyone who was killed not actually die, but be "sent to another dimension" and how the American Sailor Moon dub had some equally retarded explanation as to why characters who died weren't dying, but were just "going to X place".

EvilHomer - 2013-07-13 They killed Nephrite! :(

|
Bort - 2013-07-13 They turned sake into spring water on "Star Blazers", but in that situation it actually worked: their entire mission was to restore Earth to a green living world, and spring water would be meaningful to the crew in that context. Didn't quite explain why spring water made the doctor all loopy, though.

SolRo - 2013-07-13 Americanized anime characters drink a lot of juice and milk from alcohol containers and drinking cups, go figure...

And they've gone off to some unknown region of space far beyond our galaxy...and they're back, twisted into something hideously beyond human comprehension...and they've started destroying a major city...blood everywhere, the military is helpless against them as they reduce soldiers and equipment into a slurry of blood, liquefied guts and metal...and they just tore an airliner passing overhead in half and let the passengers fall wailing to their doom...oh, there's showers of viscera splattering against the walls of buildings just before they're demolished, the people inside screaming as everything comes tumbling down around them...
