There was a period in the early 90s where they still made them authentically sized and shaped, just neon green. So, we would spraypaint them black and gray.

What's awesome is the toy gun that changed all that was Laser Tag. Decades of realistic toy guns and the space gun makes cops suddenly see all non-cops as The Enemy. Now, they got what they want, kids with a proliferation of real guns.
