Can someone give me an unbiased reason/definition for the phrase Allahu Akbar? Every place I see seems to have an agenda on the definition and meaning. I know it's literally "God is greater" or something similar. Just wondering if it's being used as an exclamation of disbelief or prayer or what.

Old_Zircon - 2013-08-02 It's the opening phrase used in all Islamic prayers, I just take it to be comparable to saying "oh my god" in contexts like this.

Old_Zircon - 2013-08-02 Here is a disturbingly/hilariously biased explanation:
http://wikiislam.net/wiki/Allahu_Akbar#Why_some_Apologists_ins ist_.27Allah.27_means_.27God.27
I didn't expect "wikiislam" to be a PoE Red worthy site.

Bhiu - 2013-08-02 That's what I thought. That link was one of the ones I saw. I went to it assuming it would be good.

dairyqueenlatifah - 2013-08-02 Wow. The admins of Wikiislam missed the point of a Wiki almost as much as Conservapedia did.

I was already disgusted enough with the people I saw hawking "Boston Strong" shirts at a street festival earlier today BEFORE I saw this.

Nominal - 2013-08-02 As a Boston resident, I hear you.
Remember the disappointment and disgust you felt towards your fellow Americans the week after Bin Laden's death when everyone was cheering and trash talking like a pro wrestler?
Multiply that times ten for what I feel about the whole Boston Strong garbage. At least nobody sold t-shirts and hung banners for killing Bin Laden. Even worse is the Watertown Strong campaign.
No, Watertown, you weren't strong. I was walking around town during the manhunt. It was a ghost town. You shut everything down and hid inside like rabbits only to emerge waving American flags chanting U-S-A when you got news of cops gunning down his hiding spot. You not only didn't protest the cops' house to house door kicking warrantless police state horseshit, you hung banners thanking them for it. Nevermind that forcing people out of their homes at gunpoint didn't contribute A SINGLE FUCKING THING to catching the guy. That day was a police state in the most literal, end game sense of the word.
Boston has always suffered a massive inferiority complex, desperate to be considered a real metropolis. It used to just be confined to sports but now we have to outdo New York in terrorist response hysteria. The public deserves the future it will get in 5-10 years when these kind of shutdowns and home raids become the norm whenever someone calls the tip line to report a suspected Occupy protestor.
And these fucks will still hang banners thanking them for it.
|
Nominal - 2013-08-02 I apologize for my inaccurate ranting.
The tip line will also be open to report wikileaks donors, and drone strikes will be cheaper than sending cops to the house.

memedumpster - 2013-08-03 Thanks to the human video state, we are learning that Hollywood has been grossly underestimating what these kinds of explosions look like.
|
blue vein steel - 2013-08-03 It's kind of hard to show your heroes diving towards the camera after they blow up the evil bad guy's base if the explosion accurately liquefied everyone in a two hundred yard radius
