Newt is such a terrible character. Killing Scrappy Doo off-screen was Alien 3's apology to audiences. Some awesome lines and set pieces don't altogether make up for how badly Aliens dropped the ball in other areas.

Del Torro is only 48 and he just made the best blockbuster in at least a decade.

I think old z was referring to the changes made in the blu ray, but yeah, Del Toro is probably the last bastion of this sort of filmmaking. Still, Blomkamp, Nolan, the Wachowski's, Rian Johnson, Cuarón, and some more I can't think of, have at least made some decent sci-fi in years past.

I can't love this movie enough. The art direction of Alien, Blade Runner and Aliens may be played out as fuck now days -- but fuck, these movies must have been incredible to watch during their time (I watched it on TV as a kid and had nightmares...but it was such a cool creature, had such an exciting look and cool concept that I'd watch it again...and again...and again).

I could only imagine what some of these people were feeling at hour 320 while they painted yet another Alien that was just going to get lit on fire or blown up. Were they genuinely excited to see the results or were they praying someone would shoot them in the leg so they had an excuse to lay down and catch a nap?

Del Toro is such a terrible director and human being. Pan's Labyrinth is a maggot crawling up the asshole of cinema.
