When not applied to wacky ragtime or ska, they are beautiful.
Ska was a conspiracy to make decent people hate all brass instruments. This is beautiful.

I played trombone in high school, but I didn't practice nearly enough. Kind of a shame, now that I think about it. It was a decidedly unsexy instrument, yes. But, I wish I had at least given it more of a go.
