Every time we pass through the center like that, there's a good chance of being sucked into a black hole, right? Or at least bombarded with asteroids and comets. Though, I guess there's a good chance Earth won't really exist any more anyway...

Probably right about the black holes-- but I have heard it said that the slight perturbations of other stars' gravity on the cloud of asteroids way out past Pluto causes those asteroids to come careening towards the Sun every few thousand years.
Just saying, it seems like that sort of thing would be way worse as we pass through the center of the galaxy.
