Man, that NES music brings back memories.
Heh, Heh, Heh...

EvilHomer - 2013-10-20 SPK speaks nothing but lies. The NES version may have the worst explosion, but the soundtrack is superior to that of every other version, C64 included.
|
Jet Bin Fever - 2013-10-20 Yep, the NES music is totally awesome.
|
|
Scrimmjob - 2013-10-20 Evilhomer! Don't be a tuna head!

When I was a kid, I took perverse delight in blowing up that house. Also, microwaving the hamster and getting Razor murdered by Weird Ed.
NES version is Best Soundtrack.

Flying Omelette - 2013-10-20 This doesn't work on the NES version, but in other versions if you make a recording of the Tentacle Mating Calls record found in the Green Tentacle's room and play it back for him, he hops towards your character, the screen fades to black, and he/she ends up dead.
|
Binro the Heretic - 2013-10-20 Shit! I forgot all about that one.
I remember the green tentacle would kill Syd or Razor in a jealous rage if they got themselves a recording contract instead of sending in the tentacle's demo tape.
|
Flying Omelette - 2013-10-20 That is correct and that one actually works on the NES version, too, except Green Tentacle's "kill myself" line was censored to "immolate myself", which is hilarious because it's practically worse.

Mr. Purple Cat Esq. - 2013-10-20
I never got anywhere in maniac mansion. Though I only played it after the other ones, I started with zak mckracken so it seems all weird and bad compared to them.
Do ye reckon its worth revisiting?
Also love the different music for different versions+ the seemingly odd fact that the c64 and dos versions sound way better than the more advanced ones.
|
Flying Omelette - 2013-10-20 If you do, I'd recommend taking Bernard and it doesn't matter much who else. Bernard is the easiest character to achieve the endgame with. Any character who requires you to deal with that publishing company is significantly more complicated to pull off.
|
EvilHomer - 2013-10-20 It's one of the best games of the 80s and my personal favorite NES game, so I'd say yes.
Bernard is awesome; him and Razor are my favorite team mates.

|
Mr. Purple Cat Esq. - 2013-10-20 Theres a version of it *in* day of the tentacle. I might play that one
|
Binro the Heretic - 2013-10-20 Or look for "Maniac Mansion Deluxe", a free fan-made version.

Jet Bin Fever - 2013-10-20
My brothers and I both loved and hated this game. We drew a huge accurate cross section of the house on about 6 pieces of graphing paper and added several rooms in there that we thought should've existed in the actual thing. Ah man, good memories.
