Old_Zircon - 2013-10-24 I used the Fairlight dog bark less than a week ago.

Old_Zircon - 2013-10-25 Allegedly the first sample to be played melodically was a sample of one of the engineers' dog made to test the first finished prototype of the sampling board, but I don't know if that ended up as THE dog sample or not.

Boomer The Dog - 2013-10-25 Cool article Zircon, I was lost in it for a little while and trolling Soulsek for some of the tracks mentioned. I remember a common Dog bark sample, it seemed like a bigger Dog, like a German Shepherd's voice. You can hear that in the original Who Let The Dogs Out by The 2.
Maybe I've just been mellowed out by the net and its quick communication, but that guy's article was hard to read. When I have to read a long sentence over 5 times to get a clear meaning from it, then something is wrong!

EvilHomer - 2013-10-25 Totally off-topic, but Boomer: I uploaded some old fanart I did of you. I mentioned it in the Kaa video, but I don't know if you're still checking that one.

I, too, played many a ORCH5 in my younger days.

Don't copy that floppy!
Also, I found this thread where many songs that used ORCH5 were mentioned (with YT links). Perhaps an ORCH5 week is in order?

For some reason, a Peter Gabriel video shows up in related.
(Yeah, I'm being sarcastic. I'm utterly sad that he stopped doing what he was doing in the early 80s and I've been this way for about two and a half decades now.)
|
SteamPoweredKleenex - 2013-10-25 The 80's Gabriel seems like an anomaly to me. When he fronted Genesis, he and the group were major-league art-school weird. Then he found his groove for a while, up through the song "Steam," I think.
Now he's kind of weird again.

In his autobiography, Frank Zappa gushes about this synth because it allowed him to entirely avoid working with musicians.
