Yeah. I don't understand why people don't just try LSD.

Yeah. I've had my fair share of "bad trips" and they never looked like I was playing Silent Hill. The colors do change for me, and I get negative voices (sometimes the streets melt (I only take LSD outside), all the cliche things except for the spiders/snakes, that shit's never happened to me..

I'm not an expert on the subject of schizophrenia or anything, but it seems like a disease that cannot simply be put into Jungian archetypes or anything else. For example, my next door neighbor would pound on my door at four in the morning telling me that her upstairs neighbors (good friends of mine) were drilling holes in her ceiling and spying on her, and that Barack Obama just stole her Cervix. I'd give her a cigarette and talk it out with her.. of course it'd happen again and again and eventually she was committed.

I'd shutter to think that these images are par for the course for some schizophrenics. They may very well be. And while I do appreciate her intentions, this will not help a non-schizophrenic experience "what it's like". It's like going to the zoo and understanding how animals behave in the wild.

I wish the schizophrenics who monitor poeTV would weigh in on this.

When you guys see the number 9 as meaning rape/stalk/fear, and are convinced that the mail man is an alien reptile, do those come with Photoshop filters, or does the world just look normal? There is no way I could eat acid and operate a camera on a smart phone in and out of various stores down a street while holding active aggressive conversations with strangers, so I always assumed it was mostly a mental experience.

I've had experiences with people close to me having psychotic episodes, and have heard testimonials from schizophrenics and talked to them about it. There is no way you can synthesize the FEELING of being at the center of history one minute, where seeing everything before you has such an intense heavenly, or hellish meaning, and then feeling like you're living in a coffin the next. This is why schizophrenics plaster their walls with nonsense conspiracy theories, because whatever bit of brain matter that recognizes patterns and draws connections and experiences meaning is turned up 10,000%. It's something you can definitely experience on LSD, and sometimes during transcendental meditation, or just living a normal life. Even atheists such as myself have had awe-inspiring experiences, both positive and negative, while completely sober. I feel it is just a part of the brain, and organized faiths are able to use it for better or worse.

I had an experience (sober) once where I sat on the bank of a river and looked at the pattern in the rocks carved by the water. It was like a little representation of a delta and I thought it was neat. I looked up and saw a tree with no leaves on it, which looked like the same shape and for a moment I had a silent realization that not only did different forces make those things look the same, but something wordless preceded both their existences which brought them about via unrelated means. It was profound.

Compare this to my neighbor who heard ghost dogs barking and threatened to beat children who weren't there.

I wanna go on at length about my experiences and what I think I've learned about schizophrenia, but what all that boils down to is that this is a cool art project, but not a good solution to mental disordering.

Like Zest touched on, the architecture of the mind isn't a singular experience to be replicated, as every mind is different. I'm not even sure you can create empathy for the condition, unless you experience it firsthand. If you want to do something about it however, you start by creating an empathetic social order, where we don't maintain an environment where we separate into superior and inferior.

Granted, the devil is indeed in the details here, but I'm fairly certain that we'd see much less mental issues, if we cleaned up our social environment.
