I agree. He's not quite Arino, but he's much, much better than your average self-important Let's Play douche. You know, the sort who use the term "hardcore gamer" with an air of pride, and who brag about their mad skills, despite the fact that they're just cheap TAS wankers who cherry pick their best performances to show off.
The fact that he failed makes him relatable, and the gracious way he accepted defeat makes you want to come back and root for him the next time around.
