It's funny how Sony and Microsoft's console have perfectly swapped from where they were last generation. Microsoft flubs their launch with a higher price and asinine decisions, and the Xbone is the console for Sharper Image gadget idiots excited over a dumb feature no one cares about.

I still laugh every time I see the child sized Call of Duty t shirts at walmart. Fuck, I see more of those than I see adult ones.

It's the potential for abuse I think. If somebody has a riot shield and four of his buddies walk lock-step with him, barrels no-clipping through the front of the shield..you're going to have a whole lot of bawwing on your hands. That's just one exploit off the top of my head.

As a game designer, I can tell you almost no game in existence is safe from Malicious User Input.

People get really creative when they want to play dirty.

The Sims Online was a cooperative environment where the primary multiplayer service was you making a sim online and then showing other people your stuff. People created a hostile component where they would band together with other people like a mafia, force you to give them simolians, and if you didn't they would vote your house down and damage your gameplay experience through the social interaction elements.

So yeah, even if you create a game where 100% of the game is friendly multiplayer, the trolls will find a way.

I haven't seen an online FPS in years that doesn't have a "mute all" function. Also, if the Xbox One's system controls are like the 360, there should also be a universal mute in there. Or, optionally, you can just set the console to direct all chat to the headset, then never attach it.

When I had a 360, I asked my friend to give me his broken headset, cut the cord off at the base of the plug, then just left it constantly plugged in to my controller. I didn't know there was an option somewhere to redirect all that to a headset that wasn't plugged in, but I essentially did the same thing with my plug.
