I've been told by several people that I'd probably like above. But so far I have *not liked* everything I've heard. Its like they have managed to combine the vagueness of jazz with the blandness of rock. btw I really like Sun Ra and Can for example. Anwyay I havent listened to much cpn beffheart. Someone convince me how wrong I am!
My dad used to play Trout Mask Replica a lot and I hated it when I was a kid. Because, you know, Pearl Jam, Nine Inch Nails.. I started doing acid and listening to a lot of Pussy Galore and Tom Waits a few years later and I totally got it :)

When I was a kid my second cousin got kicked out of my grandma's house because he was always smoking pot. Or maybe he forgot he lived there or something. Anyway he left a couple of records behind and one of them was Frank Zappa's Burnt Weenie Sandwich and I think it really made me more receptive to sounds that were not of the mainstream.
