Could have swore "slow news week" was active.
Oh well!

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2014-01-17

I don't see the problem. It's kind of cool that there are places like this. Also, keep in mind that one of the things NPR (and that covers several shows of differing subject matter) has on their charter is to provide reporting and broadcasting not being done in commercial medial. Also, this is a neat camouflage concept. My favorite is #2 on this list:

A whole building facade covers a subway ventilation system.

Did I say it was a problem? I think it's great.

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2014-01-17

I thought you were implying that this kind of thing is here only due to there not being enough things involving, say, celebrity deaths, wars, or more chemical spills in the news.

Some time ago there was a spate of news bits about buildings that housed city infrastructure.
This is national news about a single, rather ordinary example of this phenomenon. I find this stuff interesting, but rather typically droll of NPR.
I guess it was a bad joke on my part. Not the first, not the last!

TeenerTot - 2014-01-18

The tag you may be thinking of is "slow news day."

Oh yeah! Thanks!

Toronto has a bunch of electrical substations like this:

This phenomenon is common all over the world. I really dislike it though. Infrastructure is often amazing and interesting, it ought to be celebrated not hidden away. More people might get a better idea of how their world works as a result.

If you wrote that in the voice of Andy Rooney, I completely agree with you.

To bring gigabit internet into our neighbourhood they wanted to put a tower on my roof (due to tree configurations or something) and I would get free internet but there's no way in hell Ima let them do that, it's like a big fucking arrow HEY VANDALS THERE IS SOMETHING DIFFERENT ABOUT THIS HERE HOUSE

They can go build it somewhere else and shitheads can go vandalize that place instead. I'll stick with my underground DSL.

I am sad about our society where we can't have nice things because DICKHEADS so the outside of my house looks like shit but inside it's like I can paint the walls. Also nazis.

But the biggest complaint is the teenagers leaving garbage on my yard because my house is the exact distance from the 7-11 it takes the fuckers to eat their goddamn chocolate bars and scooby snacks and whatnots.

Actually that's not really the biggest complaint it's just a complaint. The biggest complain is that women don't show up on my doorstep with their tits hanging out and the ones that do are meter readers and I have to let them read the meter and not molest them because I guess that would be a bad thing or something even though they would probably like it after a while.

That and the milf behind me that shovels the driveway what the fuck's wrong with her husband, he can't shovel the driveway but he can have hot sweaty encounters with that delightful petite and why can't she come shovel my driveway and then come into my house for some uh interludes? No seriously guys she's pretty hot.

Ask the telephone company to put one of those tree disguises on your tower. So it looks like there's a tree growing out of your roof.

infinite zest - 2014-01-17

This is actually really cool. I grew up practically across the street from a nuclear reactor, which is still active in a housing shell very similar to this one

I like the hidden oil rigs of LA

Jet Bin Fever - 2014-01-21

Aren't those oil derricks though, not rigs? I thought rigs refer to the offshore operations. Also, what a crappy way of presenting that piece. They could've made it so much better with the material.
