Here's the thing: I don't think people begrudge, say, Steve Jobs (were he still alive) for his money as much as investment bankers and other financial middlemen. If we can see, touch, or buy whatever it is that's earning you loads of cash, then we're largely cool with it, even if we don't care for the product (for example, the music of Justin Bieber).

And while both parties pander to the rich, it's only the GOP that seem to want to defend to the death, claiming it's patriotic and "job creating," any kind of regulation on the financial tricks, laws, and tax breaks that make the well off even MORE well off without them lifting a finger and at the expense of the working poor.

I begrudge Steve Jobs his money because it was made by people working in deplorable conditions to rapidly increase stock prices. Apple used the Double Irish-Amsterdam wash to pay essentially 1.5% in taxes for years, and they continue to do so. If they paid a fair amount of taxes to help offset the cost of not hiring American workers to build their products than I'd respect them far more.

I say this knowing full well that I'm a hypocrite that is addicted to Apple products. But I consume all kinds of things while simultaneously wishing they were not produced the way they were. I use banks I don't approve of and credit cards that are evil.

We are screwed.
