This game is awesome while it lasts, the soundtrack is excellent as well.

I think maybe it's price is a bit high, but the game itself is golden. A nice throw-back to the kinds of weird, semi-experimental graphical adventure games from the late 80s, early 90s. (in particular, Jazzpunk reminds me a bit of Tass Times in Tonetown)
I recommend it if you want something suitably weird and engaging.

I doubt if my computer can play it, but it looks fun. Neuromancer was the first book I ever read for myself (in third grade we had an assignment to check out a book from the public library and I found it in the young adult section) but when I read these books I never visualized the "jacking in" (put on virtual reality helmet now we're in cyberspace) visualization. I understood that Case wasn't necessarily going anywhere in the physical world, but when I was a kid I was imagining the tubes existing more like they did in Futurama.

I'm curious to know if any one knows the origins of this "jacking in" visualization. JM was the first I saw of it, but it had to have been something before that. Anyway, go jazzpunk!

I'm kind of higher than 10 hippies right now.. sorry :)

It's not so much that it's neuromancer-like, and more that this trailer is the same sort of white-hot weirdness that the game itself is.

Example: While infiltrating the Russian Embassy, you can go across the street to a theater to watch old toy commercials from the 50's and blow cigar smoke in peoples faces while dumping popcorn on them

There is so much rabid fire crazy going on that it's three-hour playing time feels well worth it. Even if you don't dig the humor, it's just admirable to see something that shows off such unbridled creativity.

That, and I'm pretty sure you aren't really a spy but just dropping hallucinogens with your boss in the airport basement. God I loved this game.

This looks more Johnny Mnemonic than Neuromancer.

The movie, I mean, not the book.

infinite zest - 2014-02-09

Yeah. I read Burning Chrome as if everyone was the same character, but different names. The movie's actually really awesome especially if you can find the Japanese cut which features way more Dolph and Dolphin :)

Scrimmjob - 2014-02-09

Isn't Johnny Mnemonic a one page excerpt from Neuromancer?

infinite zest - 2014-02-09

oh oh oh oh oh oh oh! It's been released for linux. As much as I appreciate Wine/POL it doesn't work for me past Warcraft 2, so I always feel like I was stuck with an Atari Lynx or 3DO while my friends just played away on Super Nintendo Sega Genesis: When I was dead broke I couldn't picture this!

infinite zest - 2014-02-09

scrimmjob more or less. It was its own novella in Burning Chrome but the character is pretty much in the same universe, kind of like Spiderman and Deadpool would know each other but lead different lives.

Imagine Hiro Protagonist in a movie and that's how I felt with JM.. Really a fuckup like the rest of us, but here's a badass adventure.. something like that. "Snowcrash" was originally going to be a graphicl adventure, kind of like "Hell" "RTZ" etc. to compete with Ellison's "I have no mouth and I gotta scream". Kinda glad it wasn't, since those games didn't age well (maybe RTZ, but I don't feel like playing any of them again.

I'll buy and play this. I would actually fuck this. With my very real dick.

EvilHomer - 2014-02-09

So is "Jazzpunk" an actual thing, or just a term made up for the game? I've been looking for a fun new something-punk aesthetic to fawn over, ever since Atompunk just kinda fizzled out.

infinite zest - 2014-02-09

I was trying to explain Space Dandy to someone who had never watched much anime, and I described the show as something similar (although I didn't use "jazzpunk") he's a punk or a dandy or whatever who zips around the universe, dies once in a while (I promise, that's not a spoiler).. mostly wanting to get laid in space with a talking cat who also wants to have sex with a human.

"Jazzpunk" would be a perfect way to describe that show.

Aelric - 2014-02-09

This game is more of a naked gun/No one lives forever/toybox of drugs. It's not actually some William Gibson thing.
