kind of a stretch from those quotes to say she'd be for immigration reform if the Mexicans were mostly republicans. I doubt she or the republicans would be for it then either...since their money comes from rich white guys that hate Mexicans either way (but love cheap illegal labor)

(funny thing is, a lot of Mexicans are devout catholics that don't like gays/etc, R's just shit on them so much and drive them to be democrats)

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2014-02-15

Except so much of GOP policy is so counter to the religion they claim to hold dear that in theory, NO Christian should be a Republican.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2014-02-15

For the longest time my biggest reservation about immigration in general has been importing people from ignorant ass parts of the world that hate me for being gay and would gladly vote my rights away. Same goes for abortion rights for women.

I have a best friend who is a militant lesbian who was arguing we should stand up for and march for Muslim immigrants to come to the US and I told her if she wanted to be stoned to death by law she could go for it but count me out.

I don't like the government on either side much but I know where MY bread is buttered and it sure as fuck isn't with immigrants from countries that fucking hate me coming in waves to vote me out of my non rights.

RikkiTikki - 2014-02-15

i also find it strange that conservative americans don't care for all of those conservative foreign people. practicing catholics and muslims seem to have many of the same ideas and attitudes as they do. as a liberal person, i've been called "un-american" and have been isolated as not being a "true" american enough that i can't figure out what they see wrong with those whose views are much more closely aligned with their own. are they so simplistic that it really comes down to visual representations and language/accent?

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2014-02-15

Has that ever even been suggested or tried by an immigrant group? Religious Muslims might not think America's society is all that cool with Allah, but if they're coming here, it's often to escape the repressive regimes you worry about popping up from their enclaves.

So far, evidence (that is, actual suggested bills, voting patterns, etc.) is that you have far more to fear from your domestic white male conservative than you do from any immigrant population.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2014-02-15

I dunno about that. Do you have statistics on how they vote on abortion/gay marriage issues as opposed to overall party lines? They might diverge, voting for the Dems to stay in the country but against social change, which I strongly resent. It means all the hard work that has gone into our society to bring us into a non Stone Age line of thinking is being pulled down.

The majority of Muslims that come to America are still notorious for sticking to gender norms from their respective countries, amongst other things. That and many other things goes into the voting booth once they gain entry to it.

Bort - 2014-02-15

The thing about the American right is that it's all about "taking back America" or at least keeping it from slipping out of their lily-white fingers. So I can see why they don't want the help of foreigners or fundamentalists from other faiths.

I'm not sure how the American right would look to, say, a Wahabbist, but I'm going to guess they aren't saying "wow, my kind of people" either. The American right is probably working with assumptions and goals alien to them, for example resentment over welfare recipients (read: black people) and urban youth (read: young black people).

Nikon - 2014-02-15

Unemployment is a serious problem. We already have enough people competing for positions. Why not hire someone who already resides in the country?

SolRo - 2014-02-15

because people on a work visa will work for less and take more crap (or they might lose their work visa)

also think most of you forgetting that the gays/god thing for republicans is just to get the religious vote, not that they believe in it or anything. Corporate Cock is the one true god of the republican party.

Chocolate Jesus - 2014-02-15

Really ROUS, creeping Sharia? You are such an easy mark.

Gmork - 2014-02-15

If they really took the time to get to know each other they'd find they have so much in common!

Cherry Pop Culture - 2014-02-15

My hometown is in Northern California and it is considered a lower-income county. We struggle with homelessness, unemployment and strained social services. As a county, we tend to vote Democrat and actually have a lot of immigrants from other countries and lots of people from all over the States have moved in here too. When I was working in homeless and at-risk services, immigrants tend to vote Democrat because they use social services to get up on their feet. This is spun around to make immigrants seem like villains to not only "suck this country dry," but also "imposing their views on us!"

The only people I see that think this country is going to Hell in a hand basket are white guys with no money and no hope for themselves.

If anyone gives such a shit about Sharia law, at least take the time to know what exactly that is. No, it isn't about putting our women in burqas.

Maru - 2014-02-15

Immigrants don't come to America and start agitating against gay rights, you freak.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2014-02-15

There are plenty of Somali and Eritrean immigrants I've met that think being gay should be illegal. They aren't alone. 61% of Muslims in Britain think the same thing. The numbers are higher for younger Muslims: 71%

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LGBT_in_Islam

We have enough shitheads in the US. Are all Muslims shitheads? No. Do I want more Muslims coming to America?

Nope!

I'm blatant about it. Fuck them. I don't want them coming to America because I've had enough fucking problems without them coming in and aside from the gay thing they also like to kill atheists and anyone that turns away from Islam.

It's time to put aside the reaction of wanting to protect people just because Republicans don't like them and say you know, your culture is truly shit so fuck this.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2014-02-15

Also, Nikon has a really good point about unemployment. If we gave our OWN people the education they could fill all those high tech positions. But it's been seen as cheaper to import these workers from China and India with degrees so our own people get shafted more and more. The time has come to stop immigration except for farm workers only. Those positions can easily be filled by Latinos with farm experience. Any high paying position should be reserved for someone born in the US.

Obama lies about the unemployment numbers constantly and has for years now, not counting the people who are underemployed or who are just in despair and gave up (those are predominantly older people). He wants to DOUBLE immigration per year because it would mean Democrat votes for the time being but how long will that last and do you want to see the US turn around on abortion and gay rights and see a rise of discrimination against atheism because that will happen faster than you can blink.

People don't just stop being shitty about these things just because they come to America. Their children might half the time put those shitty ideas aside but for the most part they hold onto them. Which is why every Muslim woman who wears a veil or burqa that I have met is afraid of what her family would do to her if she didn't wear it. You pansies can moan about religious rights all you want but most women from those countries are filled with fear or are just brainwashed to be obedient from an early age.

You want a solution? Make college cheap as fuck for Americans and expensive as fuck for Chinese and Indian and Saudi students and whoever else wants education here. Set up a system that does try to place people in jobs training problems if they were born in the US. Yes, that is favortism. Because they are goddamn Americans and unemployed Americans do fucking deserve that.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2014-02-15

I'm not talking out of my ass here. I've lived as an immigrant to another country and I don't view that as hypocritical. In South Korea there is a dire lack of qualified individuals who can teach English (most of this is due to an entirely corrupt educational system offering inferior materials and a lack of knowledge on how to teach a second language as opposed to every other subject) and fluency here is extremely rare.

The unemployment rate is is like 3%.

But this is literally the only profession that can be offered to foreigners here by South Korea except for a handful of construction jobs going to immigrants from SE Asia, Africa and Sri Lanka who get treated worse than animals.

I've been able to compare this culture with our own as well. America is one of the most free places in the world when it comes to not being ruled by your society and being dictated what you can do with your personal life. Here in Asia there is very little notion of personal freedom and expression. You can exhibit it if it is approved by the company you work for.

There are so many people that want into the US. I realize that I came to Korea as an immigrant so believe me I have had a LOT of time to think about the psychological impact people go through when they move to another country and get treated like shit. I am not saying we should throw people out, either.

What I am saying is that the immigration to the US is a far different phenomenon than other countries often experience. There is a mile of red tape to go through. I had to take an HIV test and get a full medical screening. I had to take drug tests. I had to get a full background check from the FBI. I had to get a full educational apostille proving my qualifications. And a ton of references.

You want immigration to the US to continue at the rate it is? Well it will have dire consequences for the people already living there. I can guarantee that. Not everybody who comes to America is now thinking "I am totally going to adopt American values". In Korea they actually teach their children they are GENETICALLY SUPERIOR TO OTHER RACES. In textbooks.

The rest of the world has some FUCKED UP ideas. Most foreigners who come here are horrified by the more racist aspects we encounter. Not just towards us but the misconceptions, complete nonsensical beliefs and overwhelming cultural ignorance. (black people in general are still seen as funny and even grown adults here will often associate them with monkeys, though Obama's popularity has gone far to somewhat change that). And there are reasons kids kill themselves here in droves, the pressure by parents is unimaginable, and the attitude towards mental illness is IGNORE THE FUCK out of it, it's not a problem here, never was!

My point in all this is that there are perfectly good, non racist reasons to want immigration to the US to slow down at the very least until the economy recovers or we have achieved a far better and more even pay scale across the board. It's not like all those lily white Republicans are well off. A lot of them aren't. Not all of them are racist. I'm not Republican but I've learned that they aren't all just a bunch of ignorant racist shits like Bachmann, it's just that most of them don't know who the hell to trust to ensure an economy that will be fair to their interests.

It's complicated and it sucks. But 75 million people are born in the Third World every year. That is 750 million per decade. How many of them want to come to the US? And how many people do you want to see come over? I have lived in SK for two years and it has some of the highest population density on Earth. Imagine a country the size of Indiana with 50 million people living there. The only place I can go that is devoid of anyone but me is my apartment. It's crowded, there is no empty space, a huge amount of pollution, and sickness breeds more due to crowds/density as well.

I'm done for now but don't attack me as one of those MURICA FUCK YEAH folks. I'm looking out for me but I'm looking out for my country as well, based on every experience I've had abroad and at home.

wee poe meltdown

Nominal - 2014-02-15

RoUS might be a tad extreme in her (his?) statements, but anyone who thinks the bigoted reactionary hold on this country through the Republican party and its supporters will magically go away once white boomers die off is dreaming.

The instant, and I mean the motherfucking instant that the numbers change enough, the Republican party will rebrand itself to start appealing to the core religious, conservative, and yes racist beliefs that poor immigrants overwhelmingly share. If not the Republican party, then whatever new future Tea Party offshoot that Freedomworks comes up with. Rebranding is what corporations do when their agenda fails to go through, and keep doing it until it does. They have unlimited resources and they are never going away.

Spaceman Africa - 2014-02-16

Come for the video, stay for ROUS' brain damaged, racist meltdown.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2014-02-17

YOU'RE A MELTDOWN!

Also, I provided statistics with the link I provided so I guess calling Muslims out on their hatred of atheists and gays is racist.

Spaceman Africa - 2014-02-17

You linked a single Wikipedia page on which showed the statistics for a bunch of third-world nations. Your point?

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2014-02-17

That allowing a bunch of people from those nations into the US will bring us down as a nation.

Spaceman Africa - 2014-02-17

So immigrants to this country will all band together to take away your rights or something? Though I am all for bringing down America as a nation, you guys are doing it so well yourselves.
