Explains a lot actually.
She was very honest and seems like a good mom, but I can see how such an intense and contained being could push someone into the other end of the spectrum.

She doesn't actually have to say it. She could simply choose not to say it. But her ego and her needs seem pretty important for a zen whatever.
Zen doesn't mean you give up being a human being.

I agree with Meerkat. It's weird for a Buddhist Nun to say some of this stuff. I've met a lot of very self-absorbed Buddhists in high positions, especially, and ironically, in the Zen/Chan practice.

The title sounds more like a musical than a documentary, and I'm at a Panera Bread with the sound down, so I'm not really watching the video, but I can't wait to see this!
I heard Nina Hartley interviewed in 2001, a long detailed interview on early internet radio. (Anybody remember EYada?) She's incredibly intelligent. Her definition of "QUEER" was a revelation that changed my understanding of my own sexuality for the better. I've been consuming for 35 years, and I can't think of another porn star who actually taught me anything about real world sexuality.

(Sadly, I only have a vague recollection of what the defintion was. One more reason to see the documentary.
The 'Nina Hartley' tag lays there inactive. That's bullshit.
Please find the vid that you think is best for this site.

I don't know what a Zen Abbess "should" think to be a proper Zen Abbess, but I don't she why she shouldn't be honest about her feelings if they are her feelings. It's likely her daughter knows her feelings, so I don't see what the point of holding her tongue would be.
A lot of the documentary is fascinating. I laughed at the part where the photographer (Barbara Nitke) goes off about bean counters being the same in all industries. I looked her up, and she had a Kickstarter for a book of "Golden Age of Porn" behind the scenes photos. Now she has another active Kickstarter for an exhibition of those photos.
Nina Hartley is pretty cool. I'd be interested to hear that radio interview if you can find it JHM.

I don't know if that interview exists anywhere. For those who don't remember, in 2001 eyada.com was a streaming talk radio network whose hosts included Bob Berkowitz and John Lydon, and whose guests included Jimmy Carter and Heather from iDeepThroat.com. I believe It was a huge part of turn of the century internet, but now there isn't even a wikipedia article.
