As a rule, "Attention whore" is usually a boring person's description of a more interesting person. It's a pretty human impulse to desire attention. I know some people who don't want attention, but they're not on the Internet.

It's not hard to understand. I don't know who this person is either, but what I'm seeing is ambivalence. Whatever or whoever on the internet is stressing her, there are also people she feels a connection to, people she feels she owes an explanation to, whether she really does or not.

I've been there. She'll probably be back way sooner than she thinks. She's probably back already.

I dunno JHMF, I think you're way off base. I would agree that *most* people who call others "attention whores" fit your description, like how some people will call anyone cooler than them a hipster. A very wordy 10 minute long video about why you're quitting the internet serves only one purpose: you think people care what you have to say and your feelings are hurt and you're trying to garner some kind of "please no don't go" reaction.

I agree with Nominal. There are Quitting Forever/You All Should Treat Me Better videos on here all the time (maybe not weekly, but all the time). We had a whole week of them, inspired by Goronchev's amazing For The Haters video (it was called For The Haters Week). Usually they're men, because usually they come from men. NONE of them get the "c'mon guys leave the guy alone, he just wants attention - who doesn't?" treatment. Now I'm not going to say this is a gender thing - I'm willing to, but I'll set it aside for now - because she is pretty well spoken. However, after I watched four minutes of her saying ten seconds worth of content over and over, I checked out her channel and, SURPRISE, she's a makeup artist that seems to specialize in Sailor Moon and Final Fantasy shit. Perhaps if you lets be nice on PORTAL OF EVIL want to throw down, one of you might want to submit one of those Feminist Frequency videos or something.

What's pretty clear is that I've left myself open to easy, obvious attacks like this from guys like hooker who don't really feel the need to come up with an actual argument. It used to be embarrassing, but now it's pretty boring. But I feel the need to answer, and so I shall.

I have a therapist, a good reputable talk therapist, a man in his 70s who I've been seeing for years. I spent a whole session once telling him the whole Boxxy story from beginning to end, the whole thing in detail, and his final verdict on my obsession (no other word for it) was that it was, in his exact words, "reality based". In light of that, I find it pretty easy to disregard the diagnosis of the learned Dr. Hooker.

If you begin with the very reasonable idea that the internet is the most important cultural phenomenon of my lifetime, it's not as crazy as all that to believe, as I sometimes do, that Catie Wayne is the most fascinating person in the world. The way the internet responded to her as a girl, and the way she responded to the internet as a young woman, these are things had really never happened before. This is something new in the world, happening right in front of me in real time, and it's still playing out.

I think she's really cute and really charming, and sometiimes it feels like a crush, and that feels kind of sad, so I have to pull back,. But I don't talk to her that much. I'm much better friends with her mom, and I find that relationship to be a pretty good window on reality.

It's something that I'm going to have to move past one day, and maybe that's already happening. Usually, when I start to move on, Catie comes up with a big surprise.

Oh, I think it's definitely a gender thijng. My feeling is that if we looked at some of these videos for which men are mocked, we're going to see some actual dickish bejhavior and not just emoting, or caring about dumb things like "leave JLAW alone"

Hooker says things like this over and over again in absolute earnest, without ever bothering to explain or prove them, and the reason for that is because he can't imagine that a young woman could really be that interesting or brilliant. He uses his own lack of imagination as if it were forensic evidence that need not be questioned or justified. He's not exactly stupid, but he's pretty ignorant.

I understand how it looks. I know what the first thought that comes to mind is. But some people just lack the mental capacity or the intellectual curiosity to ever consider a second thought.... annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd fuck them.

A "jolly good riff" implies some kind of humor, Even mean humor has value if it's actually funny. Calling someone an attention whore isn't funny. That's what usually gets me to object, when people are being mean without being funny, about something which doesn't concern them. If you're not following her on youtube, she 's not talking to you, she's not expecting you to be interested, so you don't need to make a point of how not interested you are. That makes YOU the one with the overly important feelings.

Anybody remember that weird looking fairy girl exhibit from POE Red that said *weg* a lot? Eventually she found out that everybody was making fun of her. She came to the site and the dog pile in the forums on her was seriously fucked up.

I suppose I am resistant to the 4channish deathwish that some of you fat pathetic fucks commit to. That experience is really what put me off POE Red, and I like that this place isn't filled with sadsacks that do nothing but pick on people because they are fat, ugly, or social pariahs of some kind.
