yeah, but I think Akiva Goldsman didn't have the love for the stuff that camp requires. The whole movie came off like him saying "I won an Oscar for A Beautiful Mind! But I can slum for you. If I MUST."

I think the movies have lived in that "dark" place for too long. If Tim Burton had done a more tongue-in-cheek movie like most of his other movies, I don't think the film franchise would've been held to that standard. Then they try to bring back the "BAM" "POW" and we all know what came next. Plus we've still got fun Batman with Brave and the Bold and Teen Titans, what criminally low of it I've seen anyway I've really enjoyed.

It's not really a spoiler because they seem to mention it in reviews, but I guess the new Godzilla begins by letting the audience know in a fourth-wall breaking way that "This ain't the same Godzilla," allowing for a fresh start. I guess it's easier to do with a Kaiju who doesn't talk than changing Bruce Wayne's entire personality..
