kind of a spoiler tag there

Seriously. I only get to see this on Netflix and now it's RUINED!
Damn my eyes and ability to read.

I really want to believe that this is a sign that Don is actually losing his mind, especially when you consider the episode where he randomly saw his dead brother.

amazing ending to an amazing episode. my favorite show on tv.
there are certainly amazing scenes in game of thrones that would be laughably ridiculous if done on mad men also. they're not really comparable

Trolling Game of Thrones nerds is not only too easy, but paradoxically far too satisfying.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2014-06-02

What makes them both great are explorations of power and the consequences of losing face even the slightest bit in a high stakes environment. They have that in common, and I find it fascinating.

I thought the evolution of Don's support of Peggy was probably his salvation as a person. The fact is they took a lot of risks this season. I didn't care for the first few episodes as they were incredibly difficult to watch. But the more I think about the directions they take, the more I appreciate them. For instance, pretty much every character that serves as an antagonist is also incredibly human and has vulnerable moments.

other great things:

Betty manages to be a worse mother with every season
Sally is evolving into an independent person and it's entirely realistic
Pete's unexpected support of Don
The black secretaries calling each other by each others names as an in joke that no one can tell them apart
The idiot secretary who isn't cartoonishly idiotic, but instead just misses the boat with every cameo
Harry Hamlin's character, who is the total polar opposite of Don and actually calls him out for all of his flaws and he can't retaliate because it's true.

Pete's support of Don is super expected. He's got daddy issues.

I think the unspoken superstar of the show is Ken Cosgrove, who is an asshole but is also the only one without a hidden secret life or paralyzing character flaws. Everything bad about him is publicly known: he's a second rate middlebrow.

What makes Game of Thrones great is that it's a bunch of fun and boobies and torture, with Dinklage and a bunch of characters, parading around like it's all sophisticated and shit.

jreid - 2014-06-02

This show pretty much jumped the shark, beat it unconscious, dragged it into a dark alley and shoved broken bottles up its ass. Two seasons ago.

Now it's a demented caricature of itself parading around in shark skin and slathered lipstick screaming ARE WE ENTERTAINING YOU?!?! at anyone who glances its way.

Somebody's a Game of Thrones fan!

jreid - 2014-06-04

Honestly I just wanted to write a funny 'jumping the shark' analogy and I think Mad Mans has become boring.

But I love GoTs so you nailed it.

Sexy Duck Cop - 2014-06-02

I like how when you ask a Mad Men fan to post a clip of what they consider to be the how's payoff, it's just an old man shuffling around.
