I wasn't quite a teenager when the Village People first hit it big, and like all the other kids in my class, I thought they were tough guys. Cops are tough, cowboys are tough, bikers are tough; these guys are badasses.
It was Waynes World for me.. Village People and Queen sort of experienced a renaissance in the midst of Pearl Jam soundalikes in the 90s when I was in elementary school. I just liked it because I used to swim at the YMCA. I did a pro recycling song for the school talent show.. C-A-N-S. Because recycling is fun! It would be years until I figured out why it's fun to stay there :)
Well at least you weren't like the group of fifth graders at my elementary school who, to demonstrate what tough guys they were, dressed up as the Village People for a talent show and did "Macho Man". The fifth grade girls couldn't get enough of it. I wonder if any of them (the guys or the girls) think back on it and shake their heads.
Everyone looks back at things in the past and shakes their head. Search your comment history and see how much of a stupid prick you were not 6 months ago. 6 days for me probably.
