I really wish the Godzilla reboot was more like this. The acting was good and the story was compelling, but it took itself way too seriously. That style works for some things (Batman) but I was ok waiting more than an hour to see the Batman. In Godzilla I kinda wanted to see him right away, and avoid an unnecessarily long (yet sad) backstory. That's not to say that Kaiju fans are only in it for the Kaiju, but they could've just had Godzilla at the beginning and THEN worked backwards. Again, not horrible, especially for Western audiences, but I still prefer Kaiju films like this and Godzilla 2000.

Also, from a guy who's worked at movie theatres for a better part of his 20s, people ALWAYS get up and go to the bathroom right about the time they introduce Godzilla and his trademark roar. If I was taking a leak and paid 18 bucks and heard that from the stall, I'd be fucking pissed.

****** for your second comment, because you would be pissing pissed

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2014-08-27

For me, the Godzilla reboot died with Bryan Cranston's character. Whhhyyyyy????

infinite zest - 2014-08-27

Yeah. He was great. Then it's like "ok, guy from Kick-Ass and Ra's Al Ghul and she's back in San Fransci--.." WHERE'S MY GODZILLA!

Gamera never makes landing look easy.

Boxhead - 2014-08-27

The glee in people getting taken the fuck out is palpable.

Lordy, Daiei ever had a clue what to do with Gamera. Is he the fun-loving friend to Tim-Tim and all the children? Sometimes! The movie right after this one is a reboot to Gams as defender and companion to all the younglings.

Actually, the movie right before this had him in a pretty merciful light too. Then Gamera 3 hits and he's a straight-up menacing indiscriminate monster.

That said, this is the best modern Gamera movie by leagues. I'm just saying... they've been a bit inconsistent.

Imagine being a kid and going to see this.

Kid Fenris - 2014-08-27

Kids, Gamera is just the name of the species. Sometimes you get a nice, tame Gamera, and sometimes you get a vicious, populace-obliterating horror.

Now quit crying, or you won't get to watch Watership Down.

Caminante Nocturno - 2014-08-27

I think you can rate your success as a parent by how well your child can handle a movie like this one.

Caminante Nocturno - 2014-08-27

Poor Gyaos (or Gaos) always ended up dying slow painful deaths.

BHWW - 2014-08-28

Gamera is really neat, Gamera if full of m-AAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! :rumbling, crashing noises, sounds of people being buried in debris:
