Image comics were founded by six illustrators and one writer.
And that writer couldn't even get his project going, because all the illustrators didn't want to work with him. So he wasn't even really a founder because he never was able to produce a comic.
Also, three of illustrators were Rob Liefeld, Todd McFarlane, and Jim Valentino. I know that the first two get a lot of shit, but have you seriously ever read a book illustrated by Jim Valentino???

Over the past several years, Image Comics has published an interesting array of creator-owned properties and titles and are far from their early 90s incarnation as purveyors of all that was tacky and tasteless in superhero comics at the time this was recorded, what some call The Chromium Age of Comics - so criticize that incarnation all you want sure, but it irritates me a bit when even today you hear somebody griping about Image Comics as if it's still the early 90s and all they're publishing are titles like Spawn and Youngblood.

Seven Arts/H8 Red - 2014-08-30 Image published some decent titles in the early 1990s - 1963, The Maxx, Astro City. Bone was also an Image comic for a year or two; I remember Jeff Smith catching some shit for "moving" Bone to Image. It's not like he gave up creative control, since he only aligned himself with Image in the wake of his industry's collapse.
Image's main flaws in the 1990s were erratic publishing schedules, volatile inter-company politics, and the incessant promotion for titles like Spawn, Witchblade, and Youngblood. The administrative flat fee is the best thing Image instituted, and should have been the upfront business model from day one. Not letting Rob Liefeld anywhere near Image should have been another business model.
