The host (Disney artist and historian John Culhane) looks exactly like OFFICE SPACE-era Stephen Root. It's uncanny.

The first quiz was very hard, the rest was very informative.

I know I've seen this before but I don't think it was on here. Also, have any of y'all read Jonathan Lethem's novel Gun With Occasional Music? The two share many plot elements, although protagonist Metcalf's not in a cartoon universe: Anthropomorphic attributes and language are given to various members of the animal kingdom with little explanation. It's very Chandler-esque and frankly I think it deserves a movie. This original version reminds me a lot of that.

Some of the test footage is on here but not the rest of it as far as I can tell.

Fuck Robin Williams

Hear hear.

If you've never read the actual novel, you must. It's dark, incredibly well-written noir, and there's a side plot where Jessica is sleeping with a cartoon beaver from sex-ed cartoons clearly based on Jiminy Cricket.

Jiminy Cricket/Ipana toothpaste beaver

Five stars for someone knowing who Richard Williams is. Are you an animator as well, boner?

There are people on this site who don't know who he is? I thought having watched the Recobbled Cut was a prerequisite to being here.

I don't think I've seen the newest Thief and Cobbler but yeah. I mentioned it before but I was super into Donald Pleasance when I was a kid so they rented me that one instead because Aladdin was always checked out. I guess it left an impact.

Williams is a true master. From this little promo you also get a sense of the creative nadir Disney was in at the start of the 80's. The designs are bland and uninspired, especially when you consider that Roger Rabbit was touted internally as the film that would save Disney animation, which had been in decline ever since Walt's death. They hired just the right man to rescue that production. Roger Rabbit is a gem.

I'm no animator. I learned about him through poeTV. At least one person was submitting thief & cobbler clips here. There is a documentary about him called Persistence of Vision, and happened to be playing in my town around that time. So I went to see it and it was good. (Director did a Skype call, and some local animators were there in person, they had worked with Williams.) Then I found this YouTube channel where some anonymous people (person?) occasionally upload rare old clips like this. They have even been scanning in 35mm prints that nobody else has.

I generally like documentaries about people who are obsessed with something, and Richard Williams is just about the king of obsession.

The three cabel yeros.

cognitivedissonance - 2014-09-06

The 3 Caballeros was made after Roy Disney made Walt take a vacation to South America because he was clearly having a mental breakdown about the strike of 1941. Walt was never the same again, and Roy solved the strike in a matter of hours after the plane left.

Is that the next door neighbor from "Merlin's Shop of Mystical Wonders"?

The Mothership - 2021-02-06

Producers: Jessica Rabbit's titties need to be larger. Get on it, animators.
