Jesus, the hopper still can't detect dupe links.
Shitty.

ashtar. - 2014-10-24

Eh, different copy of the same video. Yours has a better title/description anyway.

PegLegPete - 2014-10-24

Those gamers are sure showing the world how they're capable of political speech writing while retaining their trademark internet humor.

oddeye - 2014-10-24

Fuck this, whatever it is.

MacGyver Style Bomb - 2014-10-24

We paid a black man to say our bullshit, so we can't be bigots!

baleen - 2014-10-24

This was released by the social engineering department.
I think there's a lot of factions vying for attention in this shitstorm.

poorwill - 2014-10-24

I'm actually pretty bummed that tyrone is doing this. I won't be able to enjoy those goofy anime videos as much any more. I realise this is just a paycheck, like those were, but it's still shitty.

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2014-10-24

It's ironic that they should pay someone to say something they didn't believe in or think up on their own. It matches all the documents on Reddit and Github that gives marching orders to the think for ourselves" GG's, including the doubly ironic claim that those who oppose GG eloquently are practicing "indoctrination" and "propaganda."

It's astroturf all the way down.

Old_Zircon - 2014-10-24

Manbabies just learned how pop culture journalism has always worked and always will.

fluffy - 2014-10-24

Manbabies are using "journalistic integrity" as yet another excuse for hating women and LGBTQ folks.

Ghoul - 2014-10-24

Its funny watching something I do when I want to avoid chores, turn into yet another front in the unending conservative/progressive culture war.

magnesium - 2014-10-24

I guess this level of service costs a couple hundred dollars. I'm not sure if I should find it funny that someone spend hundreds of actual money dollars to hire a black friend for their video game internet douche mob or severely depressing.

Nikon - 2014-10-24

It is interesting seeing two sides full of people who are absolutely sure they are right clash together.

SolRo - 2014-10-24

I just want to call them stupid, is that so wrong?!

Nikon - 2014-10-24

I don't have a horse in the race.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2014-10-24

You absolutely do. Yesterday GamerGate decided it was "a breach of ethics" for a teacher to post something on his own private blog advising his students to stay away from GamerGate, and so they pelted the school with emails from sock puppet accounts trying to get the teacher fired. They're employing dishonest mail writing campaigns (GamerGate is never mentioned) attempting to take down sites by removing advertisers. If they are seen as being successful, there's no telling what group of bullies decide they need to be "protected from totalitarian rhetoric" by getting between a teacher and his students.

This isn't about gaming, it's about the internet, and everybody who lives works, and plays on the internet has a horse in this race.

From what I can tell, the GG group is getting plenty of harrassment too: http://www.gamepolitics.com/2014/10/23/gamersgate-not-gamergate-sa ys-ceo

But again, this is something I don't really care about either way.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2014-10-24

I'm not talking about death threats and all that bullshit, I'm talking about coordinated attempts to destroy the careers of people who say things they don't agree with. And if you don't care about that, fuck you.

SteamPoweredKleenex - 2014-10-26

A lot of the harassment I see directed at GG often comes from accounts that have been active for maybe 5 minutes and have amazingly creative names like "SJWslut" or "IhateGames," etc. They've made a huge deal about self-policing, and a ton of accounts they can report on Twitter just spring up like magic.

Meanwhile, one of their heroes is an L.A. lawyer who has been illegally posting the histories of people that he gains access to via his work. They don't seem to mind him doing that.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2014-10-24

The idea that games need to be protected from "Rhetoric" says it all. Only fascists feel the need to be protected from rhetoric.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2014-10-25

Just to be clear, this is pure absurdity

We believe in the free exchange of ideas. We must be protected from evil rhetoric.

We believe in respectful discussion. Our opponents are dishonest, immoral, and greedy.

War is peace. Freedom is slavery. We are gamers.

magnesium - 2014-10-25

Yeah, this is what I find so bizarre about it. It's a big group of idiots who think they're protecting "free speech" by demanding opinion pieces and reviews be censored so as not to offend their delicate feelings about video games. I would find the whole thing really funny if it weren't for all the death and rape threats.

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2014-10-25

Every word that comes from GamerGate is either wildly ironic or Orwellian Doublespeak. They push lurid rumor, speculation, and gossip to promote "journalistic standards". They indulge in sock puppetry, slander, and countless other forms of lying to promote "ethics" that they make up as they go along, but it seems to involve anyone who might criticize them talking to anyone else. It's a violation of ethics for journalists to talk to each other (no it's not) or for developers to talk to reviewers, or for teachers to talk to students. It's exactly the sort of thing a dictator tries to control. Luckily, these guys aren't dictators. Pretty soon, sponsors will get wise to their astroturfing ways, their little bit of influence will vanish, and all that will be left is a black eye for gaming. I'm no gamer myself, but my son is, and he's an awesome dude. I take no joy in this.

Regarding harassment and abuse from anti-gg people, not for one minute do I want to excuse or minimize that. Not for one minute do I think of those people as my friends. I've already reported someone to Twitter for tweeting "All Gamers should be shot.", but if people are sending nasty messages to an internet company called GamersGate, who anyone with a brain can see is unrelated, that should tell you that the anti-gg perpetrators are random idiots, while the GG action is either deliberately organized or directed against very specific gg-related targets, and that's very different.

I really enjoyed this piece on #gamergate and misogyny in nerd culture:
