needs hambeast tag

Kid Fenris - 2014-12-04

The new slogan sounds like the punchline from a Cathy strip.

Xenocide - 2014-12-04

CHOCOLATE CHOCOLATE CHOCOLATE! ACK!

ashtar. - 2014-12-04

Five for how out of breath she is.

Cena_mark - 2014-12-04

Its quite clear she's had bed experiences with dieting and has given up. The fat pride movement needs fat people who live healthy lifestyles to gain momentum, not bitter cows.

ashtar. - 2014-12-04

I used to work at a gym and there really are fat people that are healthy and in good shape, they just have a certain body type or some kind of condition. You also shouldn't, in general, be a dick to fat people. That doesn't mean that there's no such thing as too fat, or that losing weight isn't often a good idea.

SolRo - 2014-12-04

can we be dicks to fat assholes such at the one featured in the video?

Old_Zircon - 2014-12-04

Their joints are still probably going to fall apart prematurely, but they're also probably no worse off in that regard than long distance runners are.

Old_Zircon - 2014-12-04

"tumblr" tag probably belongs just on principle.

Old_Zircon - 2014-12-04

Incidentally, I first misread the title as "lady takes down scones," which is probably accurate as well.

badideasinaction - 2014-12-05

It has all the ingredients of tumblr activism: the belief that what they're doing is somehow radical or dangerous, the complete lack of difference actually being made, and the narcissistic need to record themselves doing these acts and make it about them.

Jet Bin Fever - 2014-12-05

These people are the worst. If you want to be a fat ass, get type 2 diabetes, lose a foot, have a heart attack and die... that's your GOD GIVEN American right blah blah.. but if why the fuck would you want to bring children into your disease? Why would you want children to feed themselves with garbage and feel like shit all the time?

oddeye - 2014-12-05

The children must know freedom. If you aren't able to choose evil then you can't truly be good.

Jet Bin Fever - 2014-12-05

They're kids. They don't get to choose at all.

Bort - 2014-12-05

Complicated. Here at my place we end up babysitting for all sorts of random children, and this past weekend we were sitting for a seven-year-old girl who already considers herself "fat". (She's got a little extra meat on her but not that much.) That's not a healthy place for her self-image to be. My advice to her was, her body's going to go through all kinds of changes as she grows up, and there are times she's going to be skinnier than others; but so long as she gets exercise and finds some healthy foods she likes, she'll turn out fine.

That said, in this case, Miss Draw-The-Eyes-Upward-With-Cartoon-Orange-Hair is taking a bold stand against the fat-shamers in her head. And sorry lady, but nothing is THAT good at drawing the eyes upward.

Hazelnut - 2014-12-05

Extremists on opposite sides tend to use each other as strawmen. In the 1930s the Fascists had anti-Communism as their excuse, and the Commies had anti-Fascism. "Pro-ana" and "fat acceptance" appear to point fingers at each other the same way. Think it's cruel to turn a seven year old into a diabetic? You must be anorexic! And vice-versa.

How is Social Justice Warrior not a linked tag? There's a rich vein...

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2014-12-05

Give the gift of diabetes.

EvilHomer - 2014-12-05

:(

Do you mind if I ask how serious it is? Which Type?

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2014-12-05

I still have a lot to learn about this (they make you take a class) so all I'm going to tell you now is that the doctor who gave me the news was upbeat and encouraging; and 2. Basically, I need to lose weight.

Now, here's a little story. There's only one thing that ever helped me lose weight and that was walking 10K steps a day with a pedometer. I dropped a lot of weight, but then I had an accident where I broke my ankle, and after that apparently something happened in the factory in china where they make pedometers. Maybe it's a communist plot, but all of a sudden every pedometer that I buy at walmart or whatever breaks within a month. It's been like that for the past few years... BUT

Two weeks ago, I bought my first smart phone, and, as it happens the day before I get the diagnosis I discovered that there was an app that allows my phone to count my steps... so I''m on it. If I lose enough weight I might be able to get my blood sugar back down over the line. Also I can

How serious it is depends on how well I respond. Discipline doesn't come easily to me, but it comes. I quit smoking, and then I quit drinking.

EvilHomer - 2014-12-05

Yeah, you'll be OK. I work at a hospital and there are plenty of diabetics running around there with crazy good quality-of-lives; it sounds scary, and maybe a hundred years ago it would have been, but nowadays there's lots of treatments and it's more of an inconvenience than anything. It stinks having to watch your diet, but you're in no immediate danger of serious problems, like losing your foot or whatever, just so long as you stay on top of things and lose some weight. It's even possible to reverse the condition, especially if you get on it early, like you're doing!

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2014-12-05

One of the changes in recent years is that they've moved the line, so they tell you you've got diabetes a lot earlier than they used to, which no doubt helps with management.

Maggot Brain - 2014-12-05

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2014-12-05

ENOUGH OF THIS PEOPLE TRYING TO BETTER THEMSELVES

John Holmes Motherfucker - 2014-12-05

There's a huge amount of dysfunction and ignorance that goes into our current obesity problem. People think people get fat because they're lazy, but sleep deprivation, from crazy work schedules, adds to the problem. Our bodies have evolved under conditions that cause us to crave fats and carbohydrates, and our economic system rewards industries that provide us what we crave cheaply and plentifully. Our government is lobbied to provide subsidies to these industries, so that a box of crackers costs as much as a single vegetable. I could go on. It's a societal problem, but conservatives are going to stand in the way of all attempts to solve it as a society.

And if you're under 30, and you think this is someone else's problem, pardon me while i have a laugh at your expense, and then face the ordeal of learning how to test my blood sugar.

I think this woman's anger is misplaced, but she's no more ignorant than the dipshits who make catty remarks about Michelle Obama.

The Mothership - 2014-12-05

It's a great time to do this.
