oh lawls

infinite zest - 2014-12-08

Furries have been funny and entertaining to me since POE introduced me to them. They may be different than me, but so what? If this attack happened at an LGBTQ convention a response like that for how people were dressed or what their sexual preferences were surely would've gotten this person fired. Instead it just remains a joke? Not cool.

Bort - 2014-12-08

I don't blame anyone for the involuntary response of laughter; the juxtaposition of life-threatening poison and people dressed as animals with kid-friendly faces is, unfortunately, pretty funny. And furries don't even come as a surprise to us folks.

Now indifference to the well-being of the people in those costumes would be a different matter.

SolRo - 2014-12-08

I think most people are seeing it as a mascot convention, not a sexual preference thing...

That guy - 2014-12-08

The "POISON ATTACK" part should be enough for people to keep their guffaws in.
I like furries not at all and I still am not amused by people being attacked.

...or by tv 'journalists' laughing about it- they are the lowest dregs of humanity right there.

EvilHomer - 2014-12-08

I was discussing this incident today with a co-worker, and I used an elementary school as an example, rather than an LGBT convention, but the end result is largely the same. Most peoples' reaction to furries getting hit with an NBC attack is laughter, when in (almost) any other circumstance these same people would be pissing and moaning and carrying on like the whole world was coming to an end.

I don't really want people fired for laughing at hospitalized furries, just as I wouldn't want people fired for laughing at hospitalized gays, or laughing at hospitalized Christians, or hospitalized clowns, or really for any reason other than showing up to work high as shit and then failing to play their inebriation off in an entertaining manner. But fuck, people! Furries are humans, too!

EvilHomer - 2014-12-08

I did snicker a little when she said "... a strong odor ...". I am deeply ashamed of that.

dairyqueenlatifah - 2014-12-08

.......are you seriously equating being a furry with being a homosexual?

Jesus. Fucking. CHRIST.

infinite zest - 2014-12-08

I'm not equating the two, no. Furries' sexual preferences, as far as I know, are equally hetero and homosexual, or neither. Unlike homosexuality, becoming a Furry may be a choice, but it's still a lifestyle, and one that should not be physically attacked or laughed about when something like this happens.

EvilHomer - 2014-12-08

I don't see why anyone still cares if it's a choice or not. I get why the debate between choice and not-a-choice happened within a historical context (early queer activists did not think that gay rights could be sold to a hostile public merely through the high-minded principles of the sexual liberation movement), but I think that by now, anyone willing to accept gays would also be willing to accept gays from a sexually libertarian standpoint. Likewise, those who oppose sexual libertarianism are probably never going to cotton to gays. (worse still, given an objective playing field, this is the sort of debate which conservatives tend to win, as the argument is not so much that *being* gay is a choice - which it may or may not be - but rather that *acting* on gay impulses is a choice - which is indisputably true)

By perpetuating the pointless debate between choice or nature, I put it to you that people are simply lending validity to the cancerous idea that we should not be allowed free agency when it comes to our sexuality.

Shoebox Joe - 2014-12-08

DairyQueenLatifah, both LGBTQ and furries have been given superficial hate. Furries are a lot more difficult to reconcile your emotions with for a lot of reasons, but the feelings of animosity boil down to the same merit as believing that they can be cured.

I still hold a bit of cynicism towards furries because I find the concept itself really neurotic, but then again there is no doubt in my mind the same thought existed towards LGBTQ, Especially the BTQ part, which I would not be surprised would pop up more frequently than for LG.

craptacular - 2014-12-08

so what, you're saying people are born furries like gay people are born gay? they're just born that way, oh i see. from age 5 they always suspected they were different from the other boys and girls running around the playground. at age 12 for the first time they rubbed one out to a cartoon horse. at age 15 they realized their deepest darkest secret... was they wanted to don a wolf costume and talk about cartoons.

and you're telling me we shouldn't laugh at furries because we don't laugh at gay people.

i don't care WHAT sexuality furries are - they're ridiculous and i'm going to giggle like a child at them probably forever

Shoebox Joe - 2014-12-08

Craptacular, if you're talking to me then you completely misunderstand the point of view.

I am not equating furries to homosexuals into their internal monologue. I am equating the experience they face from opposition and what the opposition believes and what makes it difficult to find any acceptance in the matter.

But I'd certainly like to hear your take considering everyone who feels that what bit of empathy/sympathy being shown is some how a threat to your ability to laugh at people who are weird getting hurt.

Shoebox Joe - 2014-12-08

Also, props for Evilhomer. That's a deeper and less greyish explanation on why the arguments for LGBT usually spin out.

I really wish I knew where that tense of indignity about others comes from. I sort of think it's just a variant of gentrification.

infinite zest - 2014-12-08

Yeah. EH is right. Hopefully we'll all live to see that perspective in everybody within our lifetimes.

Old_Zircon - 2014-12-08

Yah, I just came in here to say that TV news anchors are lower than the lowest furry except possibly for that "yiff the otter" guy.

Old_Zircon - 2014-12-08

Gmork - 2014-12-08

"sexual libertarian"

just fuck off right now

EvilHomer - 2014-12-08

Oh no I've offended Gmork.

Sorry, Gmork.

EvilHomer - 2014-12-08

I have no idea what I did wrong, but here is a gun video for you in the interest of peace and friendship.

Boomer The Dog - 2014-12-09

I knew that I was different, at least 'quirky' from an early age, then started to find out I was a Dog at 11, and am still Canine now, so that must mean something.

To me, it means that somehow I was meant to be a Dog, and it's true that my life is based around that idea.

Boom

Change - 2014-12-09

hey latifah, don't be such a obtuse fuck that you're confused for just stupid

this is one of the few situations you can directly compare furries to the lgbt

it's not about it being a choice, or natural attraction, or any of the dumb shit that comes up when people compare furries and lgbt, this is about someone anonymously trying to kill people who want to fuck differently

that is analogous

get a dumb grip on your drama

Kid Fenris - 2014-12-08

It's kinda hard not to chuckle when you consider the absurdity of someone gas-attacking a nerd convention or see the footage of animal costumers mingling with police, but yeah, this is serious. I'm surprised that people are responding with stuff like "It's a GOOD START lol but you can't gas furries because they don't shower." C'mon.

I was legitimately weirded out by furries maybe ten years ago, but now I feel little more than gentle amusement at their hobby. I know and respect too many people who just happen to be furries.

Old_Zircon - 2014-12-08

The Internet being The Internet, I'm not surprised people are responding like that at all.

infinite zest - 2014-12-08

I went out with a furry for a bit, who was also a stripper. She'd wear her Pony mask on stage and dance to MLP songs.

themilkshark - 2014-12-08

Let me take a moment to pass judgement on Furries. Their fetish is weird and unsettling, unlike my fetish for wearing black shiny latex suits.

Shoebox Joe - 2014-12-08

My pony farm needs a new stud. You in?

spikestoyiu - 2014-12-09

Why don't we just laugh at every fetish? We can laugh extra hard at the ones that are particularly ridiculous. You know... like furries.

I'm sure I'll hear all about how it's like laughing at black people, though.

Shoebox Joe - 2014-12-09

No horse fuckers allowed.

Rodents of Unusual Size - 2014-12-08

She'll feel better once she runs home to the safety of her BDSM dungeon, then she can forget about the horrors she just witnessed.

yogarfield - 2014-12-08

12/7 was an inside job, carried out by provocateurs bent on furthering the divide between man and fur.

BHWW - 2014-12-08

12/7 NEVER FURGET

fedex - 2014-12-08

WE WILL REMEMBFUR FUREVER

EvilHomer - 2014-12-08

FALSE FURAG! FALSE FURAG!

Seriously, I've been looking for False Flag stuff since yesterday evening, but I can't find anything yet.

yogarfield - 2014-12-08

I love you fuckers.

@homie: It will show up. I can't wait. Some day one of us will stumble across a gangstalked, teabag furry with Morgellons and an inflation fetish, at which point I think we should all log out and never come back.

Also BOOMER WHERE IS YOUR BIRTH CERTIFICATE?!

Boomer The Dog - 2014-12-09

It's with my 'papers', but I assure you, I was born an Canine-American citizen!

This relates to an answer I've given in debates about my Doggishness, someone might say 'well, you weren't born a Dog' and I bark, how do you know, were you there?

Boomer

yogarfield - 2014-12-09

"

yogarfield - 2014-12-09

Ha! Stumbled on a way to make ghost comments.

Hearts to Boomer.

EvilHomer - 2014-12-09

Yeah, Boomer's a good example of what I was talking about above. So maybe he wasn't born a dog? Maybe he was? What matters is, he's a dog *now*; whether it's genetics or psychology or just an arbitrary decision made one morning for fun, that's all irrelevant.

Boomer is the master of his fate, the Captain of his soul. Society has no business telling him otherwise.

ashtar. - 2014-12-09

oh god this is the lamest poe debate ever

Bort - 2014-12-09

is not

ashtar. - 2014-12-09

shut up, hipster

Syd Midnight - 2014-12-13

But it does deserves a place on the list of great stupid PoE debates, "was chemicqal weapon attack on furries a good or bad thing?"

Jet Bin Fever - 2014-12-09

Would she have laughed had it been a clown convention?

yogarfield - 2014-12-10

Probably.

spikestoyiu - 2014-12-10

If they were people who dressed like clowns in order to fuck one another, absolutely.

Bort - 2017-01-08

Regular clowns, or mimes? Because if the mimes stayed in character, that might have been funny. Imagine the mimes trying to explain to the police what happened.
