I think one of the things to understand here is that the American political world is nothing more than theatre, a Circus for the masses; "news resource" is just a cynical way of branding what might otherwise be called "poorly written soap opera". Once you accept this and move on, it's really quite liberating.

And Change, not to call you out, but I have to ask you to clarify your statement. Mr Supafly *is* observing Ms Maddow's show objectively, and objectively, he finds it lacking. Skepticism and critical analysis are, I'd argue, absolutely necessary for any sort of "objective" watching - otherwise, you're not being objective, you're being a mark.

Also, the question might be asked, do any of us *truly* observe "as many resources as possible"? I'd say no. One of the most striking features of modern punditry, particularly here in America, is how insular and compartmentalized it all is. How many of us here, for example, have sat down and listened to Bryan Fischer speak? Not in clips or soundbites presented by Rachel Maddow or RightWingWatch, but on his own show, in his own words, in their proper context? And then further, how many of us have been able to do this whilst suppressing our own natural biases and giving serious consideration to the things that he says? I'd venture to guess that only a slim minority of us can answer affirmatively to the first question, and few, possibly none, can answer affirmatively to the second.

In reality, what tends to happen is we "clump up", watching a whole bunch of material from sources that are more or less saying the exact same things, things that we already agree with, or things we are getting primed to be receptive to. Clanishness and cattiness and the sort of "punching bag" behavior which Mr Supafly so accurately identifies in Ms Maddow's work, all this simoly serves to make things worse, further entrenching her audience into their own angry, subjective worlds.

Maddow, like most of the political talking heads on right or left, seems to want to hear inside her head all of the shocked indignation inhales of fed up left wingers at every item she throws up on her show. I can almost hear her pause for those shocked reactions.
I used to like her show.

I'm not sure if I even care about any of that shit boys, I just don't want the host to meander around while I wait for them to drop tiny bits of the actual story to me. I got shit to do man, brevity is the soul wit and all that.

I had the same reaction, chumbucket. I kept waiting for the news that would warrant her foreshadowing, and when she did her theatrical double take after saying that some assholes financed the RNC's trip to Israel, I was less than impressed. They're always financed by assholes. The fact that they fired the head asshole before this trip doesn't seem all that newsworthy.
