I loved this movie as a kid. It was my first exposure to Baron Munchausen and his crew. It's such a weird and fucked up cartoon, but I can honestly say I haven't seen it in something like 20 years.

Yeah, well it's set on the Moon which, in the stories of Munchausen, the bodies and heads are separate. So I'm sure there were plenty of disembodied heads dancing around.

Confession time: I've never seen Gilliam's Munchausen. And I've had it on VHS for a good 10 years.

Gilliam's Munchausen is pretty good. If nothing else, it's got a lot of nice setpieces and examples of that crossover point where CGI was just getting started and practical effects were still being used for fantastic creatures and sets.

I think at the time, the scenes with the animated constellations were not only awesome to see in the theater, but were among the most expensive FX to create.
