I'd heard about Dumbledore, but Baron Munchausen comes as a surprise.

StanleyPain - 2015-02-19

I loved this movie as a kid. It was my first exposure to Baron Munchausen and his crew. It's such a weird and fucked up cartoon, but I can honestly say I haven't seen it in something like 20 years.

I'm having weird flashbacks. Was this the cartoon with the disembodied heads dancing around?

StanleyPain - 2015-02-19

Yeah, well it's set on the Moon which, in the stories of Munchausen, the bodies and heads are separate. So I'm sure there were plenty of disembodied heads dancing around.

Confession time: I've never seen Gilliam's Munchausen. And I've had it on VHS for a good 10 years.

Gilliam's Munchausen is pretty good. If nothing else, it's got a lot of nice setpieces and examples of that crossover point where CGI was just getting started and practical effects were still being used for fantastic creatures and sets.

I think at the time, the scenes with the animated constellations were not only awesome to see in the theater, but were among the most expensive FX to create.

This played on Nickelodeon in the early days. Nickelodeon used to be so awesome. What the fuck happened?

1982 was a pretty amazing year for movies. Not this one, of course.

Are you getting "1982 Throne of Fire barbarian fantasy movie Sabrina Siani to Lita Ford music" in the related videos too? That movie was the bomb.

The German Münchhausen movie from 1943:

This baby's going into the hopper, but just in case it never scrambles out, you can see it anyway. I defy you to detect the tiniest particle of concern about then-current events in Germany.
