Acting like a ridiculous clown is basically the blackface of japan - they force foreign actors and ESL teachers to demean themselves horribly (or lose their job/acting gig). Poor girl.
What's demeaning about being a girl?!? This commercial's got two (ethnic Japanese!) clowns dressed up as cheese and pepper, but oh no, THAT GIRL is the problem.
I'd love to do this. Most of the extra work I did on Portlandia was demeaning enough; it sucks to see my hometown become a big joke but I did it anyway because $$. I almost signed up for the JET (teach English in Japan) program when I was in college, which a few of my housemates did, and instead decided to get married. One of them is like a facilitator for the organization in Tokyo and the other one writes for Time Out Hong Kong, just because of that program. I've been out of college for 11 years now.. I wonder if I can still do it? I love my job and my friends but I've been in the valley for a long long time.
